Monkey's Golf VR6!

Hey all, was chatting to a friend of my bro who told me he had a VR6, had a look and asked if he wanted to get rid of the wheels, to which he replied that he wanted actually to get rid of the car as a whole. Asked him how much he wanted, in the end i managed to get it yesterday for £180 with 11 months MOT and new road tax! Car appears to have been unwashed for months or years! Honestly took me over 2 hours with a mix of pressure washing and 4 buckets of warm water to get the worst of the cack off. Inside was a pig sty, honestly the footwells had enough stones in them you'd think it had a gravel floor! Also spent a good few hours getting the interior presentable including the questionable womens underwear wedged under the rear seat…..

However, under all that dirt and muck there is a cracking little car, all 4 arches have rust on them and a few marks on the bumper, these will all be getting sorted to get the car look as mint as possible. Brand new £250 Alpine head unit and another £300 worth of speakers, decent cobra alarm and cars only done 110k, other than the air filter it's all original but it's badly in need of a service!

Quite like it matey. Not sure about the front of it though. Is the bonnet different?

Done a bit of work today, topped up all the fluids and put some fresh 10-40 in there. Had a K&N fitted which was clogged beyond belief and well past servicing so binned it and stuck a new twin cone filter I had spare on. Cleaned up the engine bay a bit too. Car runs loads better now!

Boot lock was seized, managed to finally get it open and it turns out the parcel shelf was actually a stealth shelf with a pair of decent 6x9 Alpine subs underneath

Other than that i've started on the first arch today, just a bit of sanding to see what needs doing tomorrow, bottom of the arch is going to need a bit of welding, could always use filler but I might as well do it properly.
Will probably do all the work needed on the left side tomorrow, get it all in primer and then sort out some paint from the local paint mixers.

Oh yeah, it's got 300mm discs fitted too

Right well i've got someone interested in some parts of the car.

Kind of tempted to rip out the subframes, engine, , fusebox, loom and all the clocks and stick it in the mk2.  

Got one more potential buyer coming, if it doesn't work out then it's getting a respray over christmas anyway so it'd be rude not to  

Why don't I ever find this kind of bargain?

Get that cone filter attached to something though - if you leave it flapping then it'll give your MAF wires metal fatigue and they'll snap off sometime when it's inconvenient, and the connector's annoying to get hold of. Ask me how I know… You can make a little bracket using the top bolt of the belt tensioner to hold it still. Better yet, put a BMC CDA on it

Cheers for the tip dude, i don't do pricey, got a pipercross vipe carbon indction kit with a bunch of kit for a fiver all in, so it's "kinda" like a BMC    

Yeah on the old man's 'rado i noticed that so made a little hook on the filter and a rubber hook to fix it onto the original filter hooks. Keeps it all in place and OEMish




Got some paint for it and time off, need to drag out the mk2 andstick it in the garage to paint her up
