Love this project!
Always thought a 4x4 mk1 would be excellent but would never have known where to start.
Keep up the good work, I'm sure it will be stunning when it's finished!

Rear struts have not been raised, should I stick with the mk1 ones or change to mk2 ?

That does look rather high.

Are they standard mk1 springs and shocks, or gti? I bought what I thought was a gti set up from eorocarparts and mine is way too high. Maybe a set of coilies might be the way forward?

Just had another look and I don't know if it's just the angle of the photo but the wheels look too far forward to me, if you drop the suspension it looks like the front of the arch is going to hit the tyre

Pretty sure that's just due to the way the arm pivots causing that look

Just unbolted the suspension and pivoted the wheel, fits in ok..
Now do I need to raise the rear mounts or not?
I am going to try some lowered springs and see what the difference is.

With your welding skills that would be the best way, also make a rear strut brace between the rear turrets so puts extra strength back into that area.

Back wheels looking right at home now. Good luck with the remainder, will be watching eagerly.

Nice build and keeping an eye on this.
I was about to say that the syncro rear shocks are smaller by about 3-4 inches but you have already sorted this!

Hmm I have some rallye rear suspension and it's the same height, only difference I noticed was the base of the suspension was about an inch higher.
