I bought my first mk1 in june last year after wanting one since I was a lad,but could never afford the insurance, but then I turned 25 and classic car insurance became available, result!! I had my mind set on a hard top gti, but went to look at a clipper because it was local, and looked nice in the pics, which is when my heart took over! needless to say its mine now and shes a little beaut.
Ive joined up to hopefully get to meet some new people which share the same passion as me( maybe a bromance)and can help me out when I come unstuck and share their knowledge and teach me a thing or two as im no expert and know very little when it comes to mechanics.
Sorry if this sounded like an introduction to e-harmony!
I look forward to reading your build threads and getting jelous of what I haven't got, but above all to be inspired.

Well thats a bit of a buggar! I rarely see any mk1s around my way!My plans are to just tidy it up a little really, its not in bad shape but I wanna get the bonnet re sprayed as the sun has had its wicked way with it and the rear bumper needs re doing as well after a little car park bollard mishap! the wheels were painted with gold centres by the previous owner, which really suit the car but they have been chipped up by me after taking them on and off a load of times adjusting the height and playing with spacers trying to get it to sit right as it was mega low when I bought it, but it just wasnt practical as I use it as a daily,so they need a little attention as well! im already finding it a bit slow which is worrying, but dont know how I could get more out of it ,or if you can at all ,with it being a clipper and not a gti!
I'm trying to figure out how to post pictures( my computer knowledge is poor) and I dont know if I even can as im using my phone?
Thanks for the reply and what are you planning with yours mate?

Do a quick search, there should be a thread (in the newby section from memory) about posting up pics but you'll need to host them somewhere like photobucket.com
Look forward to seeing some pics.
Let us know if you need help with anything

clippers were never quick they had well under 100bhp when they came out of the factory, the most common mod is change the pooburg carb to a webber, apparently this makes them a little more pokey and give better mpg? ive not done it so cant comment
if i ever take mine up country to see my mate in Leicester uni ill give you a shout (H)

Photos look nice, looks in really good condition, Really like the roof colour,
Not too sure on my plans yet, I bought it a month ago and put it in the barn, yet to tackle it to see what needs doing, I will start a progress thread when I start on it,

At first I actually thought it was quite nippy( but then my previous get about was an escort 55 van, which done 0-60 in about a fortnight!) I feel an upgrade coming on in the summer already

Liking your cabby, always like that colour and the different roof colours looks good.
don't worry about all the owners, most MK1's have had plenty lol
