You don't deserve a mk1.

I wouldn't… Not from a blinkered stand point but I like torque to be at least on par with my power. A couple friends have built some serious honda engines but for the outlay involved I was disappointed in their final figures. Ive seen a mk1 with a vauxhall redtop as well but for the effort involved its more like a swap for the sake of a swap. I wouldnt consider either the vauxhall or the honda swap to be any more or less fab. intensive than a VR6 swap for instance and surely a purist would even object to the invasive surgery required for that swap.
Its your car to have your fun in at the end of the day though, have fun and build on.
I know what your saying from the toqrue point of view but the b18 i have with a short ratio gearbox I've built it used to pull in 5th very well in my Jordan which weighed 1000kg (ish)
My engine is a home brew which made 192 WHP which is more than enough for me
If i jhad the cash I'd build a K20 powered one but like I said I have this motor/gearbox/ecu in my workshop so only seems the logical thing to do

Is the object spending a load of cash on a abf?
I'd rather build an engine not just put one in
I also do all the work my self so save a lot of money

I can see where your coming from, I have a totally rebuilt KR, all work apart from machining done by myself.
Still spent a lot of money on it, and to try and push 200bhp out out of it or an abf, I would have to spend even more.
As a alternative to a n/a vag engine the vtec is a good choice.

But Honda drivers are so cringey
I spotted this the other day and almost crashed from bursting out laughing
Everything that sucks about Honda enthusiasts is present on this car And you can't even hear what it sounded like from the photo…

Im all for different things, I just don't think this is the right forum for advice (sorry mk1 o.c.)
I love a mint mk1, completely standard but I prefer to modify them.
It will be the same which car it is, mk1/mk2 escort capri's, old audi's, etc etc, no idea what the Honda scene is like!
I love a high revving VTEC but like I said I think they belong in (think you said civic sammyb) a lot better chassis than all golfs up to mk4 golf (anything with rear beam has downsides) works yes but independent better
