another option is move the whole engine to the back, get a mk2/3 subframe and make it fit :)

Unless you are going way over 350hp is it worth it? Otherwise you sit in
a place where slightly less power will be more beneficial.plenty of folk with near 300 and fwd

Surely though it would be a much better animal with all four wheels driving even with around 300bhp? What is the synchro gear capable of handeling?  Maybe it would be too limited to make much of a difference.

standard syncro stuff wont handle 300bhp thats for sure, you want haldex for that kind of power. rallye or mk3 vr6 stuff is a bit beefier but its hard to get. as i say since you have to fab pretty much anything anyway m ay as well make it a decent haldex setup which are easier to find as well

Ahh slightly different country's are available in France and Germany, I think the rear beam on the syncro and the rallye are identical, unsure about the transfer box, but there is an upgrade from the T25 syncro's I have a mate in America that has a lot of experience with mix and matching syncro parts as he uses my address for his uk eBay account :) and then I ship the parts to him

yes the 'normal' syncro uses a converted 020 box, and we all know how delicate they are at the best of times. the addition of syncro puts even more strain on them they just wont take much more power.

the rallye and other higher power syncros are based on the 02a box which is much stronger, plus as i say the rest of the syncro system is beefed up a bit on them.

So the beefier synchro gear would that be up to the job then or is it still limited?  Would it be best to opt for haldex, something else which i know little about so need to look into that also.  If running synchro or haldex am i limited gearbox wise, ie can i still use a CTN box?

well it might do but i think you would be on the limits? but as i say you'll still have lots of fabrication to get the syncro system in, so why not go for haldex instead? bit easier to find than the beeft syncro stuffs from rallye/g60/vr6 :)
