What you want is actually the APY engine from an Audi S3 it was released with forged pistons and conrods as standard and was then downgraded to the AMK etc. (the BAM engine is the worst as it only has 19mm wrist pins so stear clear at all cost from these) as Audi were spending so much on making the engine. The APY can flow well over 400bhp standard the problem is people in the know do not let them go easily as they are so superior to any other 1.8t engine.

Actually APX has the forged bottom end and the large wrist pins :mrgreen: more common than the APY as it was in every TT up to 2001, and there are a shed load of early TTs compared to S3s

i also have a APX engine for sale  :lol:  :mrgreen:

So with a 400bhp engine, what brakes would you recommend as I would also like the car or should I say van to stop

i only have the bare engine, nothing more so not really any use to you as the costs of the turbo etc on top would make it expensive!

But if your want it £500

If it was me id buy a mk4 golf 1.8T with a AGU engine and strip off what i wanted. AGU is a good strong engine, has forged bottom end, big valve head etc. my old one had a revo map and would spin the wheels up to 3rd! lol

Oh and 400 bhp in a mk1 would be silly! you wouldnt get the power down! mates running at 240 bhp and its struggles for traction.

I'd still go agu, ko3s turbo and a map. Be plenty for track!

I was also under the impression that the APY had a cometic headgasket as standard all though that was quickly delisted and you can only buy the standard now apart from that its identical to the APX as you say forged rather than cast bottom end.

However the strange thing is for big big power the engine to have is the rare naturally aspirated 1.8 20v i think its something to do with the head design but you need to change the internals and lower the compression of it :-D

yea the AGN, has the big ports like the agu.

Ideally APX/APY bottom with AGU head.

Errrm.

Apx = Audi tt
Apy = Audi s3
Agu = Audi a3, mk4 golf
Agn = non turbo Audi a3,mk4 golf

Good combo is a APX/APY forged bottom end with a AGU head.
