Engine 1.8 carb
Fuel loads of it
Manual/Auto Manual
Milage 128k
year purchase June 2012
Price paid £600
Condition poor/fair/excellent   Pretty good, completely solid underneath, there's one rust patch on the rear wing but that's easy enough to repair. It's got FSH till 2007 and since then she's been neglected.  All it needs is a few new parts and a spruce up and she'll be sweet. Well chuffed.

I've had mine so long that it would skew the data (£5k I think in 1985). It'd be really interesting to find out what someone pays for the £11k one at Panorama Bay but it's usually hard to get that sort of info and I've noticed that in the classic trade, cars sometimes move from dealer to dealer
It's interesting to follow auction activity and there's a Mk1 coming up this week at H&H, a red 1600 that's had loads of work done and is said to be close to concours save for a bit of work on the interior. I'll watch for the result but it has an estimate of £4-5K.

I've bought the car from Panorama Bay, ill not say what I've paid.  This is exactly what I have been looking for (black non sunroof with no work required), this car is qorth more to me as a possession than an item for re-sale to make a proffit or to get my money back,

I am also looking at a 1 owner 1977 gls with 36,000 miles been dry stored since 1982, I would imagine ill pay about 2 - 2.5k for her.

As people have said if you buy a cheap car you may end up spending lots and lots to get it up to a specific standard.  I would only recommend getting a cheap car as a project if you have money available to fund your project and to only go own this rout if you enjoy restorations and are experienced in restorations.  All depends on what finished product your looking for, if you buy a 1983 GTi for £500 and want to make it concours then your in a dream world unless you are very knowledgable and have 10k available to spend.  Be realistic in what your wanting as end product.

Good luck
