Who do you insure with to keep your no claims?
There were talks that they wanted SORN cars to be insured.
Aint heard anything else about it.

usually on a classic car policy, stipulations are that you have limited mileage and acsess to another vehicle.
The other vehicle carries the NCD.
Also yes it is an offence not to have any vehicle you own uninsured wether SORN or not, even on private property.
It's probably going to a phone around to get a deal.

The law's pretty simple and logical:
If a car is SORNed it can't be kept on the road - it must be kept off the road (ie private ground etc) at the address given in the declaration. It doesn't need to be a garage, it can be outside.
If a car is SORNed it doesn't need insurance. However, if a car isn't SORNed then it needs to be taxed and insured.

The new vehicle insurance law means that the registered keeper of a vehicle must keep it insured unless they've made a Statutory Off Road Notification (SORN).

No, that a car must be taxed and insured unless it is sorned. you cannot have a tax'd car with no insurance this is now an offence and can receive a fine.BigNormRivage said

I got told from the woman in the post office when I went to Tax the POLO.
I asked about the new changes and the cabby being SORN etc and she told me that it must be insured whatever ??????
I pressumed she should know with dealing with vehicle Tax on a regular basis.
It's the case it must be SORN off road so no insurance needed, also means some may be carrying insurance when they need not.

The new vehicle insurance law - don't be caught out
Stay insured - stay legal
Watch a video on the new rules on being insured and penalties you could face
Stay insured
If you're the registered keeper of a vehicle, it must be insured at all times.
The exceptions are:
if you have made a SORN for the vehicle
if your vehicle has been kept off-road since before SORN came into force on 31 January 1998 - unless it was brought back into use
if your vehicle is recorded as stolen, passed or sold to the motor trade or between registered keepers
if your vehicle is recorded scrapped or permanently exported by the Driver and Vehicle Licensing (DVLA)

It was on question time or some similar programme where they were discussing that the goverment wanted to pass a law where vehicles had to be insured (not taxed) even if they were sorn.
That was a few months ago.

What would you be insuring against though? If it were SORN, it would only be fire/theft/damage, but this isn't even legally required on a car on the road (the only insurance REQUIREMENT is third party cover).

Im not sure to be honest Paul.
The programme was on in the backround and I only heard a small part of it.
I even tried looking on google but found nothing.
Maybe I heard it wrong.
