Mk1 - G60
This is my first project, trying to do as much of it as i can
having a bit of help by the side, I'm a younger one so learning
the shell is rust free, had a tad in the rear arch n fuel filler but nothing serious, all gone now
i picked it up as a 1.1 which was standard apart from the turbos and old skool leather buckets.
this is my pride and joy to KEEP
it came with the original mk1 golf dash but decided to make my own, along with the rest of the interior and grill ect… you know the deal

cheers mate
you need 2 original mk1 golf grills, the one your going to keep carefully cut the badge out, cut a section out of the one your going to throw away (oversize) to fit in the gap, i used a disc sander to make it a tight fit, then simply work superglue into were it joins, its not taking any weight so superglue works well, then i just sanded it dead flat then went over it in matt black,
and if your a perfectionist like me, i cut the back of the grill out,
when you look at a mk1 golf grill either side theres about 10-20mm of the back being solid so when you look directly at it it sorta stands out
but thats just me getting fussy.

Cheers mate, gonna go find another grill and give it a go, I was going to cut away the extra backing bits anyway to aid air flow as the right hand side bit would almost completely cover my charge coolers radiator and fan.. But thanks for giving me another project to do for my mk1 g60!!

Sorry mate one last thing, what did you use yo cut the plastic? I have a dremel so was going to buy a little blade attachment but thought this might get too hot and cause the plastic to melt arounf the blade? Cheers

i just used a really fine blunt blade in a jigsaw, probably not the best of ways but it does the job, it does tend to melt the plastic but it isn't too bad, as long as you keep a picture of the result in ur head its worth anything
another thing when you cut the section out of ur your throwing away, make sure in the middle of you cutout you have one of the vertical plastic back suppport bits, i think i cut my whole bigger so i could fit 2 in to make it bait stronger.

i brought a g60 mount set, the right hand 02a gearbox mount looks ok
but this mount here doesn't look right, doesn't fit, also looked at the justcaddys set and it looks like it won't line up with the mount on my mk1,
it seems to me in needs to be a lot wider
hope any g60 lads can help ?
might be best to send the kit back and get the one from justcaddys ??????

cheers lads
yehh they was the very rare diesel bumpers that was on the mk2
my plans for the scuttle is to keep it as open as i can and touch it up with some simple pinstripe
to this day i have never seen it in a mk1 ever, but my mate did say he seen a caddy with it done,
my favourite mod by far.
sprinter intercooler turned up today too
just need to find somewhere that sells a good 380mm topfill radiator pretty soon ????????????
also fuel pump ??? i got told facet fuel pumps are good ?
