Surely the best if not the cheapest solution is to visit one of the aftermarket caliper manufactures, ie willwood etc and buy one of their kits
Thanks mate, prob the best option yes but dont think it will be the cheapest?! 8O
Just looking for something that will work an not rip the pocket…

Ya i have heard that i could use G60 280mm discs and Vaux Calipers and that would work out cheaper as i wouldnt need brackets?…

280mm set up you'll need calipers from one of these…and adaptors to fit them to the mk1
MK3/A3 Golf/Vento GTi 8v or 16v 1992-95 ish
MK3/A3 Golf/Vento VR6 1992-95 ish
Corrado G60 1990-1993
And possibly even a Passat VR6
and G60 corrado discs (4x100)

Hi mate,
O.k, ordered the discs today…256mmx20mm, just need to get the calipers, shoulder bolts and hoses now. Could you point me in the right direction for where to buy the hoses and spec etc. and also which Vauxhall calipers? I know they are 256mm but are they Corsa,Vectra etc.?
Thanks!

I actually had taken a set of brakes from a Vectra and bought 256mm Discs to match. Turned out the calipers were the bigger size and required the 280mm discs. got my G60 Discs and they are on and don't obstruct anything and match up really well. I didn't need any type of special brackets. Only the shoulder bolts.
Interesting! I already ordered the 256mm today! :? What size shoulder bolts have you used?

Thanks for all the info mate. I know u said M12x25 but in the link there is only M10x25 or am i missing something?
Thread is M10 (coarse, which will fit into your VW Hub)
Sleeve/Shoulder is M12, which fits fits through your Vauxhall calipers.
25mm is the length.
12.9 is the tensile strength.

As far as i know most 256mm will fit, i used Calibra 16v, but i've been told by a vauxhall mechanic that cavalier, vectra, calibra, tigra and astra are all the same. (make sure they are 256mm though, some are 280mm
As for hoses, vauxhall use banjo ends, but the other end of the pipe will bolt straight up to your existing hard pipes. Just ask around the various companies for Vauxhall fit hoses, and if they will just sell you the front set.
I'll take this opportunity to say i won't be held accountable for any wrong purchases you make. search the web for mk1 vauxhall 256mm brakes. There is a sea of info out there.

I'd recommend this set up to anyone as its so good for a very small outlay.
Mk1 brakes in standard form are crap.
I take it you've already done the MK2 golf servo and MC upgrade ?
