1987 Mk1 Cab
I have now located a donor vehicle thanks to a lovely local chap.
Most items are now sourced. Hopefully there will be some real progress very soon!

Less holes in a mk1 is always better!
Very true!
Today was a decent day, I ordered the throttle bodies and ECU etc.

The throttle bodies have landed. Here is a little mock up…
The next step is to strip it and decide on which way to go with cams etc, I would be cheekily happy if it managed around 200bhp.
Thankfully the coilovers and top mounts are also ordered so that means that the majority of the important parts will be arriving shortly. I am strangely looking forward to going through my shelves at the unit to see what I have stashed away. I know I have some goodies in the loft .

They are with Mike the Polisher but should be finished next week. I am likely to sell them to be honest.

Cheers. The whole throttle body set up has been my biggest outlay for the car to be honest. I am hoping the noise will stop me from regretting it.

DTH straight shot t/b,s on an ABF can get very friendly with the bonnet in a mk1.

A little update as things have been moving along.
Further dismantling and the real prep began:
We couldn't decide how to attack the sound deadening in the scuttle, we finally decided to strip it and start again to retain a factory look (I know a lot of people leave this out):
The panels were polished to help spot dents and dings:
Old rivet holes left over from the fitting of the aftermarket kit were removed:
Genuine wings were removed, they have some minor rot to them but are usable (with some time and effort) if anyone is interested. Slight damage from removal but easily fixed:

More stripping:
Cleared out footwells and decided to try and replicate the factory sound deadening and seam sealing:
The goodies from Joe at Fresh Reflections landed:
I also opted for the H&R Deep coilovers from StillStatic which have arrived with some lovely adjustable top mounts.
The inside of the car should be completed around New Year… Fingers crossed anyway! So much more prep to do, Ross at Bodyshop Teesside has put in a few hours now… Plenty of powder coating to be carried out too .
Has anyone used Dynamat before? I am tempted to use some before fitting the underlay for the carpets.

Well I'm sat in a petrol station in Vienna having a quick beer 🍻 waiting for the jet wash to come available so I can wash my Mk6.
In doing this difficult task I avoid doing the veg for Christmas lunch. 😉
Not only that but it's raining here, my wife is walking the dogs and she still hasn't cottened onto the fact I'm washing the car! 🤔
Cheers 🍻 😂👍🎅

I hope it all worked out well and you had a cracking day today. My dinner here was pleasant but I couldn't help but think about getting home (to crack on with the Golf ).

You have to respect a man that goes into work on his day off to do this for you. More paint, it's an emotional day!
