Well your mk1 is doing well i'd say.
So's this one that is local to me, thought i'd throw a modified into the mix.

Hey - that's very interesting… a very good benchmark comparison I'd say…. Very different - modified versus standard - probably will attract very different types of buyers…
I had two people view the car over the weekend - both thought the car was better in flesh than in the pictures… which is nice to hear. Both offered cash to end auction…. I declined - as really want the auction to run to a conclusion.
Cheers G

A day to go on ebay - lots of interest, watchers and few good bidders so far... fingers crossed it gets sold to enthusiast and someone who will be in the Club or will join...

TBH thats going for more than I thought it would but perhaps it proves that for a solid clean original example then expect to pay a premium because they are the ones people want and don't come up for sale often.
Still doesn't tempt me to part with my similar one though because I know i'd regret it and spend the next 12months looking for another!

Thanks - a good link…. it must have been the thing to do in the early '80's to add an exterior immobiliser… ! Mine's in exactly the same place… I guess 25 years ago they didn't have electronic key fobs…. just mechanical keys…
Nice spot…. G

A day to go - perhaps it'll edge up a little more before the hammer comes down… who knows… I know value of GTi's have risen over the last 18 - 24 months…. my car would make a good investment I think….

£4,600 with aftermarket sunroof. I am staggered. This bodes well for our dubs?
Well done with the sale mate.

Well I sell cars for a living and I advertise all my stock on ebay. With classics and specialist cars such as your MK1 GTi ebay is a fantastic tool.
Its not so clever with newer stuff where theres a million to choose from and i always expect to get 15-20% less than screen price with these.
A case in point is a vehicle I had last year. It was a very rare (50 made and only 28 known to be still on the road) german car that belonged to a friend. This particular car was rotten and needed serious surgery to the body to get it back to its former glory. I could have bought the car off my mate for £2800 but in its condition I wasn't too convinced I could make a decent profit. Instead I said I would sell it on his behalf.
So i gave it a clean up and took it for MOT. To my amazement it passed and I stuck it on ebay. As it was rare there was a lot of interest (over 300 watchers). The car ended on £5400 to my utter bemusment. The buyer came over from Eastern Europe for the car and was more than happy.
My mate was over the moon and although he saw me alright I couldn't help wishing i'd gave him the £2800 in the first place. You live and learn.
It shows though that when its rare or sought after ebay is definately the way to go in my opinion.

Thats mine you have no idea how much it upsets me seeing it stick out Don't have the key for it got an immobiliser installed so that is the new alarm. In the sun you can see the a ring through the paint. Is it possible to get it removed?

Hi there nifty, yes, I still have the 911, as well as mint MK1 MR2, MX5 and a nice Merc 190….
I was pretty pleased with what the car fetched (and by the way - the winning bidder picked up the car - and drove to Swansea this morning - no problems).
I'll miss the GTi for sure - but it did go to a mature new owner who will look after it… G
