Trabant with PICS and Updates

Just bought this as a daily driver project…Needs brakes, wiper blades and then MoT….It's a 1986 Trabant 601S Deluxe in CapriGrun.  Original factory spec, even down to the dashboard magnetic watch!




Some paint has beeen done on some panels and it has some runs. My dilemma is do
I repaint, leave as is and retain the 'used' 'rat look' patina or go down the NVA East German Army style
route like these below….



Bought it to give this one a rest…

It's a Sachsenring Trabant.  2 Stroke engine.  Made in Zwickau, old 'East Germany' from 1964 to 1990.  Made in an old Audi factory.  Taken over by VW in 1989-90, when they started fitting VW Polo engines for the last run of them.  Cheers guys.

i did nine years in das vaterland and loved these old smokey motors nearly bought one last year,one 4 the future i hope

Update.  Now MoT'd and Taxed and Insured for £50!  Used as my commute car between St Helens and Wigan.

Now with Desmo roof rack…..

Is it true they made them from comprest material mixed with resin ie cardboard  :dontknow:  I like it as is.
