 Looks like youve gone to town on the body work good luck with the project mk1's are the best iv had 5 of them some pics might be on here?
ill have to come and have a look at yours sometime
im working on two mk2 gti's at the moment (as mk1 prices have gone up!) ones an 1988 1.816v 3door and the other is a 1990 1.8 8v 5door both are in tornado red plus just striping a 1992 runout editon i got for £300 with rare 15in bbs ra alloys and rainbow seats and if that wasnt enough im striping my old 1984 mk2 gti 8v on k-jet like the mk1's
So i hopefully one of my cars will be ready for summer shows!
As my daily driver is a 1996 mk3 1.9 tdi very good on fuel 60mpg!!!

P.s i like the early mk1 golfs in pea green with brown interier looks so old skool.

When I read that you were going to weld up the sunroof hole, I was a bit worried that it wouldn't turn out right for you, but it looks really straight in your pics :wink:

As for the green, if you paint it that colour, but return the original stripes, I think it will look really good.

Go for the green, would look awesome in my opinion.  Plus black is a real pain.

Hi mate.

Any chance you can give me some tips.

On that rear tub panel you fitted mine has an old captive nut that is no longer used but the area has rusted and broken through. i cannot check as car up at lockup but wasn't sure if the area was double skinned?


you can see the original repair in this old pic:



it is the captive nut area just above and to the right of old repair.

any help appreciated
