Project It'll be done when its done

You may or may not know I bought a MK1 Driver last april, It passed the mot 2 months ago, heres the rundown so far.

Heres how it was:





But When I collected it had standard suspension due to tyres scrubbing with the lows.

It was ok in the usual areas:








So off I went with APJ to collect it being towed back with his trusty 1.2 Clio. Was an adventure to say the least & on the way back the brakes siezed on but with the power of the clio I didnt realise at the time. Unfortuanately while it was being towed the bar went through the front panel

Heres how it looked a couple of days later after I polished it:

Anyway, I wasnt a fan of the side trims so a trip to Geezers emporium sorted me a set of gti upper trims plus some decent doorcards & repalcement front panel(this still needs doing).:






At the same time I changed the front calipers with goodridge braided lines:









With my Dads help & some info on mk1oc I swapped the weber carb that was on there for a brand new one the same spec & re jetted it for 1300. Then while waiting for the carb jets after a wasted journey, the inlet manifold was refurbed along with a few other bits:

While it was still jacked up the lowering springs & shocks were refitted with a couple of spare wheels on the front with proper size tyres:





Finally the carb bits arrived but still it wouldnt idle, I missed VFW.

Then at Ed38 Ryan(Boxxer) scored a bargain with a VDO centre console:


I bought some corrado seats with Nafes help we went upto Tonypandy & collected them.

I Tried to get my schmidts fitted all round but they only fit on the rear so heres how it looked:


And recently I took it to Avia Autos & they solved the carb problem, I had the wrong fuel cap, the solenoid wasnt a permanent live earth & the timing was slightly out(180 deg).

So to celebrate it I bought a radio for looks:

And in the snow:


The indicators were playing up since I washed it but Geezer came to the rescue again, he ripped half my dash apart (3 screws), unplugged the wiring & put it back together and Hey Presto they work Happy Days.

Now all I need are my Schmidts to be refurbed, new tyres & the welding.

Low point: faded paint, dented wing, odd wheels, rusty front panel & no mot:



3 days later. Schmidts done 8-)



Week or so later…
Got one of these from Playo, will fit it on my day off:


Very happy with it as I've always wanted one, suits the mk1 well imo.    

edit centre caps have arrived aswell & tyres are on, just need the new wheels bolts now.

Couple more randoms, had the spare bonnet on for ages as the original was rusted underneath. So before it had the front panel fitted the original bonnet was refurbed.

Fisrt it was cleaned & kurust:

Then it was painted with 2 cans of red hammerite:

and reassembled:



While bonnet was off more rust was dealt with:



Spare washer bottle was cleaned & fitted:




And the rear of the cylinder head was cleaned:


New washer pipe:


Rad brackets being blasted, should be back & sprayed by sunday hence cable ties ^^^

Still needs a full underbonnet cleanup but its alot better.

And what did you clean the washer bottle with!?  Iv tried everything and cant get mine that clean. Tried to but a new one and they are like hens teeth!

Will do but other things are more important at the mo, brakes need sorting plus wishbones, top mounts, rad etc.

i did a little 5 min photoshop to one, if you dont mind now currently my desktop wallpaper love the wheels lol..

Just bought polybushes, new lower arms & fixings, vdo's & gonna be getting topmonts top mounts asap.

The bay looks really good, really good job tidying it up there 8)

Mate, three things really, first of all get a hair cut :mrgreen: . Second the car looks brilliant you've done a cracking job. and thirdly get over to the 2011 Calendar thread and submit some of those pictures, they're really good and just what I'm looking for!
