Back to the future
Three years later, Linda asked me 'what car would you buy if money was no object*' and I replied my old Golf.
A couple of weeks later, I was offered another cabrio, which bears an uncanny resemblance to my old passion and I chose it rather than a lovely Sportline that was much nicer.
This is 'Skippy' Tim's new Golf and it has already lost its BBS VW alloys replaced by a set of BBS RA's, moreover as I approach senility I decided that the 'slammed' style would not be suitable for the back lanes of west Dorset. Therefore, it currently rides on a set of original springs (thanks Quiffs) and some nice Spax shocks.
I do not intend to restore the car to the condition as it departed the factory, but it will appear to be standard with some sensible modification under the skin.
Tim
*No doubt the Sportline would have been cheaper in the long term but I just preferred the deep blue.

It still needs to be mechanically refurbished but it will ready for my retirement in five years.

I had hoped that my thread would stir you into action. Please drop me a PM and I will reply with my email address.
Lovely to see* the old girl looking so good, her replacement is a few months older but the process of restoring her is well under way.

*Many thanks for keeping her in fine fettle.

What is the problem? You point out an obvious issue of odd rear lights but cannot tell when CL seats are used in a GTi?

jesus lads relax, i took the picture of the odd rear lights the night i was changing them, when i bought the car it had the chavvy m3 lights which i didnt like, so i set about changing them and sorting out the bastardised wiring in the boot, i just took the photo for comparison to show the originals as opposed to the m3's, and as for the seats there is nothing wrong with them, they are comfortable and serve the purpose they are intended for, resting my fat ass when driving, the car is not a trailer queen and never will be, its purposeful and gets used as a daily driver along with my passat and caddy van..

Tim.. you did a great job on the car and its a credit to you, judging by the extensive folder of history that came with it you spent a lot of time and expense on it but as said its mine now so dont be getting upset over it, i'm certainly not… as said in my pm to you if you would like the car back feel free to source me a rivage or sportline with a similar history and its yours….
Funk..you are a wealth of knowledge and an alladins cave for parts, i dont want to give you a big head….haha

If you do, can I buy the seats?i may in the future change the seats for a rivage leather interior, but for now the car is fine,
There was 5+ years between selling the car and it coming into your care, what happened in the intervening years is a mystery. It had a full set of original lights and all the wiring was carefully loomed into place.
The seats were GTi but were not comfortable, I replaced them with Mk2 CL seats but re-used the original GTi covers.
I do not intend to do the same on the replacement car, instead I will restyle the original seats and flatten the seat padding whilst increasing the lumbar support.
