Nice seeing someone with the same problems as mine!! Looking good, any updates?
Yeah they're common rot spots
I've noticed that even in the garage, which is relatively dry, there is a build up of condensation just above the plate connected to the rear panel. So this area is almost always wet :dontknow:
Anyway, no updates, after reading my previous post which states that motivation is high, I wonder what has gone wrong
After this was written, I spent a lot of time cleaning off all the surface rust under the back end, then treating it with kurust, then giving it a coat of rust converting primer. Didn't update the thread 'cos this was all a bit boring. So, I must have exhausted the motivation doing that, as haven't touched it since Before Christmas :redfaced:
All I have done is bolt the beam back on so I can put the car in to storage for a while, so the my Escort can come out for a bit

Maine awesome fabrication work here gotta say I'm jealous of your skills
Thanks Gazvenn, I don't think I'm doing anything special, If you can shape a bit of cardboard then you can do the same with a piece of metal
If you're going to the classic car show at Tatton Park on Sunday (19th), keep an eye out for the old heap below, and come say hello.

Here's today's work
This is a seam which runs across the car in front of the fuel tank.
chopped it out and started putting in new metal
here's the inside.
Floor pan edge repaired.
ground back and a lick of paint just to protect it.
There you go, now time for another short break

The edges had gone all frilly, and the rust had eaten through where the 2 brackets are welded on.
Cut the brackets off and replaced the bits where they were supposed to be welded on. Then replaced the sides and rewelded the brackets back on. Drilled holes where they were before and painted.
So now we have a new ornament in the living room, too good to leave outside in a damp garage.
It's a bit scruffy on the inside though

Tested by Autocar late in '82. It's one of the first 1800's. But what's got me thinking is the NV area code in both my reg. no. And the car above, presumably supplied by Volkswagen UK for testing. Looking at other VW and Audi road tests of the time, they all have the NV or other Northamptonshire reg. area codes.
I am now going to send off a V888 form to DVLA to find out the previous keepers.
Does any one have an ex. VW press car, or have any info about them?
