Black '82 GTI. Resurrection.

Buzzed off the whole sill and painted it with some anti rust primer, so at least it is protected for now.  Yay, it's all one colour, with no unwanted holes

Finally going to attach the roof next weekend :D

Thanks for the compliment Stu, I haven't touched the car since the last post, but when my Escort goes away at the end of the month, the Golf is going back in the garage and welding will continue
Looking forward to getting back in to it and hoping to get the welding finished over the winter, but I said that last year
Bought a new fuel tank for it a couple of weeks ago and hopefully will get the fuel lines replaced and try to get it running again before stripping off the mechanicals
Don't mind giving you a few pointers, but I just make it up as I go along :dontknow:

Well the winter is back with us, so it's time to carry on with the Wolfsburg Wonder ;)

On to the back panel

Cut out to reveal whats left of the towing eye mount

Replaced the rotten mount with a bit of new

Then the eye is back on after a good buzz down .

Here it is now, with the bottom edge of the quarter/arch replaced and the rear panel tacked in, should finish this bit tomorrow ;)

In between welding etc. I've started to restore bits that have been removed, some hooters before

and after

Maybe another hour or so after dinner tomorrow :D

Thanks, don't think I'm worthy of that many not worthys though

Motivation is quite high at the mo, been out there again this afternoon. Was dreading dropping the rear beam, so have been giving the mounts a good soaking in WD over the last few nights. It was relatively painless though, all the nuts came off without any fuss. :D

Once the beam and the tank were out of the way I could get a look at the chassis legs and the metal around the beam mounts, all looks solid, with just a touch of surface rust. No pics sorry, I'll take some later in the week when I get chance to attack the joint in the floor just in front of the tank :D
