MK1 Jetta Coupe 20vt

Gearbox with the diff in is all painted now, looks pretty at last.

Trying to paint the inlet and a few other bits again. I've done this about 30 times, the car will weigh loads with the amount of paint on them.

Original old bbs vslves and caps, just need to be cleaned now

What is the width and ET of the BBS RS wheels you are getting refinished?  I am looking to run 15" x 7" with an et of 25, and am a little concerned that they will poke.

Post

Mine are 7 x 16 et 24, but with adapters they are a lot less, never even put them near my car so its a bit of a last minute gamble.
If they dont fit then i have another set in the garage that are et 43 so i will get those centres re done.

Both sets are RS001's?  I haven't seen any with a 46 et, I wonder if those will hit your coilovers/springs?  The corrado steelies, with a 35et are about 10mm from rubbing the coilovers on my car.

Mine are 15x7 with a 25et and I am hoping that they don't rub or poke crazy.

Nice project

I'm with you, not too big of a fan of the poke.

Keep up the good work.

My self and roy have been busy again.

All gearbox mounts are now made. Roys done a cracking job on modding my old mounts.

Inlet us looking ok and is now back on with a few more pipes tidied up.

Dump valve all done, I haven't painted the ends to stop it popping off under pressure.

Gearbox is now in place.

Yeah all the rads get like that because of the flimsey fins on top. I have made a rad cover so none of it is seen.

The gearbox that I had been stitched up on has appeared at last, yay!
I contacted several people about finding the chap that stitched me. His friend came to my rescue and spoke to his mate and went and got the gearbox and took the time to send it to me.
I was incredibly grateful as he didn't need to make the effort because his mate is a useless tit.

I could have done with it 2 months ago because it is the correct 02J with 100mm drive shafts.

So I now have 2 spare 02j boxes, as soon as I know my 02a with my quaif in is ok the others will be forsale. I also have a spare cable conversion.

I am a looser!
While my missus went wedding dress shopping i spent my saturday in front of the tv cleaning wheel bolts with a tooth brush, im sure that is about as sad as it gets.

I tried a few methods, soaked in pepsi worked well but the bolts were a little brown so took a bit more effort to get clean.
Warm water and elbow grease also worked ok.
The best was to soak them in this degreaser stuff i got from Roys part washer tank in autobarn.

I left them in the degreaser stuff for a few days, then washed them in warm water and then cleaned each one with a tooth brush. Put them back in water and the then one by one dried them with a cloth.
They came out pretty well, but they werent horrific to start with.

The amount of times i almost went to drink the half a glass of pepsi i left on the kitchen side :)

Water

Pepsi

Degeaser stuff

Degreaser in a pepsi bottle

After degreaser

After first clean

All dry and clean

Now onto the nuts, but they dont need to be as clean because they arent seen at all.

Before

In degeaser

I leave them in the car so they get shanken about a tiny bit, but not enough to damages them.

car looks ace.  i'm refurbing a set of bbs rs's myself at the moment.  any idea on what sort of cost would be involved in getting them powder coated and polished from someone like the polisher?  also i stripped and cleaned my original bbs nuts and bolts, but because i obviously took the original laquer off i left one outside to see if they would corrode.  mine are obvously steel, but not stainless, and it looks like i will need to buy a new set!  have you checked yours, or are you coating them in something?  sorry for all the q's but all advice is appreciated.

I'll pm you how much i paid to have the lips polished and the centres stripped and powder coated.
I've not got them back yet, but so far mike the polisher has been awesome. I can see why people use him.

My bolts were in good condition to start off with and I haven't stripped and polished them. All I've done is degrease and cleaned them very well.

What colour was you getting your wheel centres powercoated, are you going for red?

That green caddy looks nice, are they local? ;)

Yep, they are pilar box red.
I was tempted to go for a darker red, but thought I'd keep it classic. Just a shame the other 2 door got his red wheels on before me.

Not a fan of the caddy, if it was original 90's then it would be cool, but it's not. It's all fresh paint. It's on carve with a side exit and is in to be set up. It sounds like a group b rally car at the minute. I'll find out if he's local so you can pm him :)
