MK1 Jetta Coupe 20vt

Yes annoyingly there is another 2 door red one, its now local too.

A chap called mike has a grey 2 door and brought over the low mileage red one from germany. It has about 40k on the clock and is lovely.
He then sold it to a guy in Woking, so it came down from yorkshire and now on my door step.

The new chap is modding it which i think is a real shame, it would make a great concours car.

As for the rad cover i'll grab a pic of the thing i cut so you can see what bit i used.

What's the Rad cover off again mate as it looks really tidy.

Rad cover is a bit chopped off an e36 bmw one.

Heres a pic of what it looks like in my car and what it looks like off the car. I just cut the top bit off :)

Ah are you my cabro parts man?

The engine cover is missing a bracket and they are on back order from vw.
The rad and engine cover only get plonked on for show, i run it with out to keep it cool.
The coil packs dont like heat.

Blinking cars, my gearbox decided to die on me. I was driving normally and it made no odd noises or signs it was about to pop.
As i pulled up outside my house it dumped all of its oil. It stinks and looks horrific, it could have at least done it outside someone else's house :).

My mate gave me a tow up to Autobarn so i could check it out.

The 020 crumble box strikes again, 2 big holes in it and plenty of snapped bits.

Its annoying, but not the end of the world because the gearbox was next on my list to sort out. Its always been an arse to get it into gears due to the rod being extended wrongly.

So after hours of research and chats with Tim, Paul and Roy i have made up my mind what i'm going for.
02J box with 100mm drive shafts and m8 bolts
Single mass G60 Fly wheel
VR6 Clutch
VW clutch cable conversion and bracket
Mk2 1300 clutch cable
Cable shift and gear stick
New mounts
New starter motor.

I've only just fitted a new starter to the 020 so thats sodding annoying.
I'm going for the clutch cable option, because i dont want to chop and knock the bulkhead about.

Some more parts for me old wagon.

NOS indicator to replace my one with a tiny crack in.

Gear box actuator and it does come with a boot from VW and cheaper than the Seat one.
Cable bracket, which needs a little chop and some paint.

As in what is my daily drive from my collection of scrap :)

If it is then, i've gone back to a passat weasel estate. Did have a new bm every few months until my other half left her job at bmw finance.

If its the other then i dont drive down the A4 very often.

Nope, had to buy another one from a breakers yard, even that turned up without the shift tower on it.

Gutted that someone would rip me off like that. I had a good chat with him before i paid, saying i'd  rather buy from a fellow dubber, etc, etc.

So its all a rush to get the new one in for Sunday.

I wasnt happy with the finish on a few bits so it all came apart again for some more paint.
While the gear box was out i thought id might as well paint the mounts and bolts.

I have a gearbox, cost me more money and it came with the wrong bloody drive shaft cups so i need to source them now.
I need 100mm bolt in ones from an early mk3 vr6 if any has any.
My 02J was ment to have them, but the time i realised the chap that sold it to me couldnt use a tape measure i'd already painted the box :(

So next up was to to take the old box out and clean and paint the new one.

Minging gearbox

Cleaning process started.

Several jet washes later and a wire brush

Primer and then more black paint, then wrinkle paint.

Still needs to dry

Old 020 gear box is a tad dead.

Thought while it was in the air i'd trim a bit more off my g60 brakets to try and get rid of the squeek totally.

Since fitting the stock 20VT air box my car hasnt been getting much air, so i swiss cheesed the bottom of it, it wont be seen in the car.

Been cleaning the engine bay a bit, its never going to be a super clean show winning bay, but then i dont want that.

I want it to look like a stock engine install.

Still messing about with gearboxes, sick of the bloody things now.
