ive been looking at doing a similar project but I really don't have much experience. Ive got an old mk1 cabrio AUTO (which is shit) the plan is to put something with a bit more GRUNT… If you know what I mean, and at the same time MANUAL.
Im in Dubai so there are ZERO mk1 flying around, so parts are hard to find.
My mate in South Africa has just completed his mk2 project. 2.0 16V turbo 400bhp (now we talking)

Ive found a mk3 16v Manual complete car, which I want to do the swop
hi mate, im so happy when i see a person who wants to keep golfs on the roads,
when i decided to start this project i ordered haynes restoration manual and haynes service manual. they have very useful informations.
also i know all parts, because my parents had a golf and she always broke down in addition, you are a member of The Mk1 Golf Owners Club, so as a club family, everybody will be pleased to help u
i understand you about finding parts, because i live in Cyprus and also have troubles to find some parts. but i have friends in UK, and he send me when i buy something.
Mk3 16v is a good donor car. i think you can do this swap with combine your original parts. explore it to the web, u can find lots of examples…
good luck to ur project. i hope to see it in project pages
