right im getting frustrated now! im getting fed up of not having my car running and the only reason its not yet is because i dont know how to do the bits that need doing to get it running!

ive had a few people say theyll come help to get it finished but have never actually had anyone able to come through and help.

basically what im asking is… is there anyone near enough to sheffield that could possibly help me finish my conversion

just off the top of my head what needs doing now is:

wiring needs doing
brakes need bleeding
rad needs hoses connecting (not sure if ive got the right hoses and even if i did im not 100% which one goes where)
need to make my current exhaust fit the ashley manfold. (need to buy a 3 bolt flange reducer to weld to current center section)
need my gear linkage setting up (again i dont know how to do this)
still struggling to get the throttle cable set up right as it just keep falling out of the bulkhead and becoming unhooked from the accelerator. its the mk2 gti one ive got as thats what i was told id need but it just doesnt seem to fit right. any idea?

this is what i know needs doing im not sure of any other things that may need doing.

dont worry i do expect to pay lol

anyone fancy earning a few quid doing this?

Alright Dude…I can't come up but  grab me on msn messenger and we can go through it all (DavidGawen@Hotmail.com)

Wiring - What needs doing, what is not yet connected?

Brake Bleeding - Follow haynes, it's pretty straight forward.

Rad Hoses - I've got loads of images of my engine in various states, can go through on msn.

Exhaust - do you have the Ashley connecting section? (Short section with a kink in that bolts to the 3-bolt flange).  As you've got and Ashley (as I do) you'll want to have a Flexijoint welded into the connecting section as well.

Gear linkage - is it all connected?  I assume what you want to know is how to know where to nip up the selector at the bay end?  It's covered in Haynes, i've got a scan of the setup image somewhere.

Throttle Cable - Ok, the problem you are likely having is down to the longer hook on the pedal end.  As it's longer it hits the bung on the bulkhead and pushes it out.  The simplest solution is to bend the Accelerator pedal itself.

Grab me on msn and we can go through :)

When I did my 16v conversion into a 1.1 I got an auto electricians in Leeds to do the wiring. It was only £100-£200.  I got it carried over on a low loader  - £30 - and left the car with 2 bin bags of wiring looms from a corrado (engine donor car) and an early mk2 16v loom. Came back a week later and it was running!!

If you want there details let me know.  It wasn't mega money for the time and hassle it would have taken me :D

getting it sorted a fair bit cheaper than that, plus its my mate thats doing it too. cheers anyway mate.

Just a quick question though, what did you do with all the interior? Are you keeping it? Few bits n pieces I was cheking out in some of these pics :D

Cheers for the reply,

Got a real nice set of leather seats in mine at the moment though :D

I was thinking more of the rear arch covers, rear under window covers (above rear door cards), carpet (maybe), front door cards, covers for the seat belt mounts at the top  and seat straps under rear bench etc

ah right haha. i did wonder ya know then! lol

im not getting rid of door cards or rear arch covers or the bits above the rear door cards. carpets not for sale unfortunately either dude.

the two straps under the rear bench are not needed, the covers for the deat belts are you on about the square shaped ones that the seatbelt coil goes behind? (ill have to see if theyre around when im at the garage in a couple of weeks as its hard for me to get there at the minute.)

Thats cool, I find that most people keep those bits even if going the track route, hence me pouncing, just encase :D

I just bought a set of belts and got the lower covers last week but missing the small triangle bits of plastic that cover the top b pillar seatbelt mounts just in front of the grab handles.

Cheers for the reply, sorry to hijack your thread!
