my brothers old campaighn, he got as it is with black leathers, it was also featured in a mag in the 90's (oxford edition or something)

I have to laugh at you young uns - wait till you get to 40 and see pics of how you look now!! With your skinny jeans and arse hanging out and those birds nest hair do's!!!      

It will be a harsh lesson that what you like now, you probably wont like at all in 10 / 20 years time!!!

I agree though, clipper bumpers look awful on a tin top - but hey these cars really were the first modified ones on the water cooled scene…and looking at a lot of them there were some nice touches on most, not all put together quite right - but you have to remember golfs were pretty few and far between until the early 80's and that was were it pretty much grew legs!! No internet then - haynes manual, magazine, hammer and a lager with your mates round.. a build thread never existed we just went for it!!
Then played space invaders on the zx spectrum !! Ask Foxy he'll tell you all about the old days

I remember the French gullwing car - saw it at Crowthorne a couple of times. The guy said that the doors and strengthening of sills and roof etc needed 3000 hours work.
Another one I remember from those days was the cabrio with leather interior in the colours of the Jamaican flag.
I think it was 94 and there was a bit of a craze for BMW 3 series dashes

Anyone got any pic's of a red mk1 with stil auto sigma's,it also had a e30 bmw dash ,and IIRC a sportline interior.

It was my favourite mk1 of the time think it was featured with a blue mk1 which also had the bmw dash.

Wish I kept all my old vw mags

somewhere!! i know both the guys who built those two cars, they are both local to me…

they were featured in max power in about 1996!!  8O

All my Edition38 buddies have said they will dissown me if i build a replica as it was the car that started a string of mk1s for me! well 10 in a row to be exact.

Have all the components needed apart from the 8x17 TSW blades ( i know it has bbs in this pic but it did wear some blades), just lack of time as all i seem to do is build other people's mk1s.
