Hi there, just read this myself, dont be put off! threads like this
are few and far between. I think its more about the way the ad
was headed, not the content of it, maybe should have said….
"Rocco parts suitable for MK1 Golf" etc.. etc… anyway thats the
rules, MK1 Golf bits only, or bits that fit them if you see what I
mean.

Anyway…… back to the site, if you are after info on buying a MK1
have a look at the buyers guide, or if you have any questions
fire away….. hope this has not put you off  :(

Welcome aboard

Okay but before you decide what to buy and what not to buy your wife or who is in the 'right' and who is in the 'wrong' have a look through the forum rules and post history of any contributor.

Good luck with your Pug'

Well, you won't get any abuse from me for a 205 gti - best car peugeot have ever made from a time when they were generally making good cars. Hopefully you'll get a similar response form other folks on this forum.

I don't even know why I'm replying here again, think I pretty much had it covered before  :?

Agreed-rules is rules, does that mean i broke a rule because i mentioned a peugeot? the guy is a mk1 gti owner and member-trying to help out fellow members with rare hard to find parts? which we all know can be a real pain in the ****!

just to clarify: if an engine from a mk2 rocco came up for sale on here, it would be allowed to stay as it bolts directly into a mk1 golf.

the same goes for wheels, brakes, suspension, ect, ect

HOWEVER,

if you were to advertise a rocco as "breaking" or complete car "for sale" it will be removed.

but i've got to agree with the original post, after i read it i can now see that SOME mk1 owners are indeed stuck up!

I have respect for the 205 as Jeremy Clarkson said and was right it took the crown of the Mk1 GTI as a super Hot hatch which took some doing

and it has taken almost 30yrs for VW to get it back if it has  :dontknow:

I have respect for all owners of classic cars even the XR3 owners club as i like to see them out and about and especially at the lights

I just hate modern cars that all look the same, no individuality any more they all look like a toyota, ford, fiat, pug, vauxhall,ie
I challenge anyone to tell these apart at 1000 paces

Dont ask what your club can do for you, but what can you do for your club?

I think this means that you should also be removed as you have a Scirocco and it is clearly displayed in your Avatar. You are clearly in breach of the rules and as a moderator you should be put in the sin bin. He he!!!!!

I am sorry to have to say this, but if after seeing one post on a open forum on the owners club website stops you buying that particular car that forum represents I find quite childish and a bit daft. I mean what did people do before these forums were up and running.
You don`t even really need to post on here to get the information off it, you can search for most things anyway.

Good luck in finding a forum where everyone agrees with every other persons opinion

x3.

Is there any way a little leniancy could be added in future, to allow for Mk1 related items?  This would allow any components shared by marques to be advertised for mutual benefit?  I know it would take a little more moderation to keep on top of, but at least the extent of part and spares available would be increased, and hopefully the lifespan of a few Mk1's in the process.  So long as the difference was adequately stated in the ad, and the forums don't become awash with posts about how to rebuild roccos, there would be no harm done?

Give me a slap if I'm overstepping my newbe status… just trying to learn and move on.

Please have a look at the Forum rules mate. Any part that can be fitted to a MK1 IS ALLOWED to be advertised! We have plenty of non-stock/non-oem items for sale right now. The only thing that isn't allowed to be sold on here is other CARS!

Honestly we started many years ago and one of the main thrusts of the site was to preserve the MK1 Golf, to this end we encourage users to sell parts, you'll see many owners running non standard engines etc and these are all catered for in Parts For Sale.

The only thing you can't sell is a NON-MK1 CAR as this obviously has many other avenues via which it may be sold and the selling of which wouldn't benefit the continued success of the MK1.

I hope that's all okay.

Just a thought, and as this is one of the better forums, I am sure you will all want to vote on this…..

Could we have an extra for sale section for other VAG motors?

Lots of other forums do this, if you don't want to look you don't have too, MK1's will be clearly defined and for people who only want to look at MK1's no problem.

There are some obvious benefits to be had - alot of the parts from VW's can be swapped. A lot of people on here also run other cars than the MK1 that also happen to be VW. Most of the people on her keep their cars in top order…who else would you rather buy a daily off?

The reason this site is better than others is because it isn't full of sub sections selling random stuff. Try Ebay for that or Scene 38.

Oh, and yes i'm highly stuck up!!

I can make any part of any car fit a Mk1. Just pass me a large hammer.

If I want to buy a rocco I go on the rocco forum, if I want to buy a toyota prius taillight I go to that forum. Simples.

One minute people complain of bandwidth issues the next they want to post non-Mk1 stuff. Its members who fund this site for the free use of non-members and they should have the choice. I would rather memberhip fees went towards funding Mk1 topics and kept this the top Mk1 specialist site in the world. Dilute the content, dilute the Club.
