Puf the magic 'wagen

Here's the story of PUF 741X so far, told in a pictorial form!

After reading the ad I fell in love with the car, and went to pick the car up from Barnsley. Alas, no ticket or tax meant a trailer had to make an appearance too.

Got it back to our uni house, stored entirely appropriately!

On to MOT fail items after that. New shoes;

Rot :(

I figured if the inner wings need doing might as well replace the fornt panel too.

Head gasket needed doing.

Water pump did not want to come out…

"New" pump looked rustier than the old one! Still works at least :D

Bonnet's getting the same treatment as the front panel.

Left a sticker on before painting specifically to peel afterwards. I reckon it's worked :)

Should be passing its MOT this coming week ready for the final round of shows!

Thank you folks. I'll link up some pics once it's all put back together and looking spangly! Housemates don't mind half a golf on the lawn thankfully - it's the other half in various bits all over the house they're not too keen on

Build's looking good Grant, I have to keep resist buying revos. There's a set of revo splits on edition at the moment worth more than the car but they're lurvly…

Got the car back to Salisbury to finish off the work to get it properly on the road over the weekend.

Minor problems on the motorway:

the end of the throttle cable that holds it on the carb pinged off while I was passing a car. Yay.

A spade connector and a pair of pliers later…

Bingo! makeshift throttle cable.

A photo once it got back to my friend's house where the work's happening, and then pics during the day!

There's still a bit more welding to do which should get finished tomorrow.

Finally, a quick reassembly to get an idea of what the front end will look like.

A massive thank you to Rich (fastmk1) for doing the welding for me.

Didn't quite get the welding done today but it should be good to go tomorrow assuming I can get a throttle cable from somewhere.

Loving the chequered panels :)  Looks like you made a good job of the masking. Id hate to mask all that up and find out theres runs everywhere 8O

The masking was ok but I made a point of not taking too much care over it - I drew the squares out using a piece of cutout cardboard! There's no laquer either as I could only find gloss paint, so hopefully over the winter it'll matt and wear nicely.

I'm glad you like the panels, I'm hoping it looks good when it's on the road :)

Almost finished now - just need to get the bonnet to shut as the latch is playing up something chronic (pins are tempting), and get a garage to change the sump gasket and MOT it!

We spent most of the afternoon just looking at this:

But despite the rain we finally had a result.

Fingers crossed for tomorrow :)
