Hi,any golf mk1/vw/classic car meets near inverness

the brakes need a good right foot as well

LoL, tell me about it, the Caddy doesn't exacly inspire much confidence on that scene either.  Looking at upgrading the brakes on mine before I do anything else with it I think.

…I wonder who that was then -there's been quite a few appeared recently though I don't know whether I've just started noticing them more since I got my VW.

a bit of bad luck then - it would of been good to get the 3 mk1s  together on the open road.

Not a great start to the day then!!

Does Jock take on any work on MK1's?  On my way to work on Monday (I'm working in Aberdeen at the moment) I bottomed out the back of the pick-up and the NS rear wheel caught the wheel arch and pulled it out slightly.  I need to get new rear arches at some point anyway (was just hoping they'd last until next year) but I've lost all my workshop / garage facilities now I've changed job.  Would this guy be able to help-out do you think?  There's no bodyshops up here I've found which will take on welding so far apart from a guy down at Dalcross called Robert who I've used before -I haven't dug his number out yet to check with him though.

….I'd obviously prefer someone familiar with mk1's to do any work on mine that I can't take on!

On my way back from Aberdeen to Inverness tonight I think I saw a sign not too far south of Nairn (after Forres anyway) for a classic or vintage show on the 2n'd (that's this Sunday isn't it).  I'll have to hayoo and see what comes up or try and get in contact with someone I know from Nairn to see if they know anything.

Amazing how well these things are advertised isn't it -the sign I saw was maybe an A4 size at most.  just like when I tried to get to the tain show, the advert on the main road left you hoping you were heading in the right direction and took the right route before you saw another sign.  LoL.

…I'd say you're right.  So what's the "Moray muscle group" having checked the link out when it's at home?

moray muscle group is in fochabers i dont usually bother with it, brodie and fortrose i only just found out about, motormania in grantown on spey is good its in september,  i have the vintage federation yearbook as i have a mk1 escort aswell and TBH  most of the shows are poorly advertised, its a pity a place of inverness's size doesnt have a carshow/vintage rally, aye baz i have a set of 9 spokes somewhere, think they are all 1982 stamp, RST , jock is really busy but might be worth a shout, dont know anyone really as i do everything masel.cheers

HI
Dubhighland
I will put motormania on my calender of stuff to do Thanks, I am interested in the 9 spokes the reason been i am not 100% happy with the way the car feels on the road with the deep dish alloys & 205/45/15 tyres , i think the car might feel better with the original size wheels & tyres , i am fitting a wishbone Lower strut brace this week to see if it helps .The car has had new wishbones & bushes fitted by its previous owner it all looks! pretty healthy, but maybe a bush needs replaced
Its hard to put into words how the car steers, feels on the road but its as if the front wheels are trying to pull "slightly" diff directions sometimes

Your thoughts on this small problem are appreciated eg does a mk1 feel better on the 175/70/13s or 185/60/13s or even the p-slots 185/60/14s
might start a new post with this one
cheers

205 tyres on a mk1 would tramline i would imagine, and the height of your car wont help, 175/70s can fair hold to the road, i am running 195/45/15s on ET25 wheels and it sits on jamex coilovers and has top and bottom braces, its ssticks well to the road but lifts its opposite back wheel when going fast into corners, got a set of 9 spoke but no tyres ?20 if you want em 8)

Great

Tramline was the discrip i was looking for,but i want to keep the car as standard as possible i think!! and dont really wont to lower it!!

I have sent you a personal message with mob no,can pick them up any time this week as i am on holiday , if thats ok
