coil overs or standard shocks, wots the difference?

ahh pk ill shut up then
yes they are called de casstlets, they are the mk1 version of the mkII de casstlets i have on mine, i do like them i kept them off my MKII jetta gti ltd edition.
the reason i kept them until i got another golf is my understanding is the Mk2 casstlets are even rarer than the mk1 casstlets as on the mk1 golf & cabrio they put casslets on a few different models but on the mkII they only put them on a select amount of gti golfs & gti jetta's meaning smaller numbers were manufactured…….

they look nice polished up but i prefer the mkII version but thanks for that

shock types

You asked about suspension terms, so for what it's worth….

Standard = Have the spring coiled round the shock which is damped with oil and have no adjustment.

Gas = Commonly will be adjustable for the rate of rebound on the shock ie spax but do not necessarily lower the ride height.

Lowered springs = Do exactly what they say and can be fitted as direct replacements and commonly are harder and shorter than std. springs, can be used (for a short time) with std. shocks but are best when part of a matched set of springs/shocks.

Coilovers - the spring length can be adjusted on the car by a collar - look very similar to the shock/spring suspension on the back of a cheap mountain bike.

Good luck with the wheel search….
