Talk to me: Polish and wax

So i'm going to polish my car and get it all shiny, my understanding being you polish the car and seal the finish with a good wax yes? I have some autoglym resin polish and some turtlewax carnauba wax will this do the job?

simple answer. YES
if you can be bothered go and get some autoglym deep shine polish and use that first. then the resin then the wax. and give it a few coats of wax while your at it.

Clay is also good to use as it picks up all the dirt particles from your car.

Also the worst advice I've ever seen given on this forum, unless of course you like your paint full of swirl marks, and enjoy having road grit blasted into your paint, and then dragged up across your doors and bonnet.

(Sorry for highjacking..)

I've recently used Meguires 3 stage tripples wax and I think it's great stuff, ?7 a bottle (x 3) but it'll last for ages and it has a great finish!!

That clay kit is seriously good stuff, I washed my car at a friends yesterday then he gave me some to try out.
I was so shocked at how much grime it managed to get off even after a good wash.
I was just about to order some actually, expensive but its really worth it IMO.

been looking at this recently

to do a decent job, wash with the two bucket method, clay, wash again then use Autoglym super resin polish, then Collinite wax

Bilt Hamber clay doesn't need a special lubricant either, you can just use water

clay is very good! I did the boot of my mums mini at the weekend, BUT you MUST wax the car after as the clay takes some of the wax off too so the paint will be unprotected!

heres a very good guide to claying.

if you need any more help ask Dan of Shaun as they are both mint with it.

Well, I just bought a bunch of Megs stuff, so I'm going to give it a go over the weekend and maybe put some pics up of how I get on.

There are a couple of good threads on edition38, which I can recommend taking a look at as it gives you a really clear idea of the methods to use and the order to do things  8)

Wash your car using the 2 bucket method, with a lambswool mit

Clay the whole car, using Quick detailer as a lube(or your own brand  )

Mequiars step 1(its a paint cleaner and prepares the paint for polish)

Mequiars step 2

Autoglym Super resin

Collinite 915 wax(2 coats), this wax is just crazy. Its amazing! Do 1 coat then I'd wait atleast 8 hours before duin another coat. Make sure you dont wax it in the sun either!

I'd love to spend that much time with it but the car lives at my mums so i dont have access to it all day, i'll have about three hours. I'll probably go with car shampoo with mit, autoglym resin and then carnauba wax. Should do the trick for now?
