Has to be a hoax.....surely?!?!

1989 MK1 VW Golf GTi Cabriolet, 'All White Edition' - currently having a new blue roof fitted. Yes it's not white but it requires less Cif to clean :)

Nope no hoax, it's what's known as a Golf Country. Used the same Synchro all wheel drive as the G60 and Rallye. Looks as though this one is a little higher than normal, but basically the same as standard Country! Check wikipedia for more info.

Now there's something about that that I quite like. And no it's not the fact that it's a convertible.

Oh my GOD, a Golf Mark 1 cabby 4x4 is my dream car! But that red one is not very nicely done up. Mine would look like a standard Golf, and then just go like a Fiat Panda 4x4 in the snow (something the current cabby is not capable of, despite not being *too* bad with snow tyres).

Whatalotafun! (my number one fan it seems)  That 'guy' had a BLACK one! And has just popped up!! :lmao:

Yep…I loved my Golf Country.  The black one on the link at top of the thread could be my old one!  I sold it to a guy from Stockport in 2003 and never seen it since.

I picked mine up from Munich.  I don't think that the Mk1 based cabrio version was made by Fiat. I think made in Italy, yes, by some coachbuilder in the country.  The red Mk1 based Country Cabrio in the link to the old thread, was in standard form and not customised…..!?!

Below, my 1990 Golf Country Syncro.  Original factory spec.  Don't where it is today…

Current:   Porsche 914 1973
Previous: Ghia, Golf Country 3 Trekkers, 2 Bugs, Trabby, Split Ambulance, Iltis etc.

I might be wrong but I'm pretty sure it's a MK2 cabriolet.. yep, they didn't make a mk2 cabriolet.. liars…!

I would have thought www.ebay.it would be your best bet of finding one?

Without sounding anoraky…..

Golf Country was built at Syer -Puch factory in Graz, Austria….They are based on the Mk2 Golf Syncro CL standard saloons….bodies built by VW and then 'syncro'd at Graz before being built as a 'Country'.  The came in 3 models.  The Allrad ( a base model -oftyen adapted for use by the services and government- in black or dark green, minus graphics and with plain rear wheel cover, and vinyl seats and door cards with steel wheels, three spoke steering wheel- the rarest model really); The Golf Country (as pictured- also in black, red, blue, green and rare silver with option of steel or webasto style full electric roof and removeable towbar as options) and the Country Chrome (not SO rare….with all the bling on it and leather and wheels source in california!)

Current:   Porsche 914 1973
Previous: Ghia, Golf Country 3 Trekkers, 2 Bugs, Trabby, Split Ambulance, Iltis etc.
