When I was down in Cornwall I went to a door to ask about a mk2 escort - No.

Went to a door to ask about a cabby not far from me - No.

The Escort is used all the time and the cabby just sits there with a layer of moss over it.

Got the garage to store my golf in this way.  There is no harm in asking is there.

8O Nothing quite like being stalked is there!
I can imagine some people wouldn't appreciate strangers randomly knocking on their door about their car, 'if it's for sale there'd be a sign in the window' sort of thing. But nice to hear so many of you got the car you wanted!

i got my mk1 by putting a note on the blokes windscreen while he was in my works car park.
he made it all the way home without noticing it ( 25 miles) and when he got home picked it up rang me and said he was going to be putting it on ebay lol
quick deal later and im still the owner of it  :D

I have done that for a Caddy when i met this old lady at a petrol station, asked her if she wanted to sell. She took my details down but never got back to me.

Followed another chap to his house, found out his contact details & wrote him a letter asking him he wanted to sell. He did call me back saying he will consider it in a few years time.

Like its said no harm in asking is there

I've been on the receiving end of such offers !  Once on my Citroen DS, the guy followed me from Colchester, overtaking me and giving the car the once over, and then followed me back.  I said no, and he tried for months on end !  And once in a TR6, but that had "stopped" working at the pumps ( like it always did ) and the guy offered me a lot more than it owed me …

It's spooky, don't do it !

I guess if you speak to them nicely and ask genuinely there is no harm,
If they ask you can say you were passing by, saw it & wanted to ask.
They key is howerver not to freak them.

I've had this loads of time and I've done it myself too.

Don't see anything wrong with it.  Afew times I've said "Well if you do want to sell it in the future, can I have first refusal?" and left a phone number and in a couple of cases, received a call, even two years after seeing the car.

It would freak me out big time to be followed home as I would think I had a stalker and c**p myself bigtime!

And I would also phone the police (hands free of course) which would probably cause embarrassment all round!

I have been, and don't mind, being approached when I have bene stationary.
