Project 888 - (16v) KR Engine install
Here it is in Chronological order.
Nearly all poly bushings done.
Fitted front lower and rear strut braces.
Had the car welded (in 20, yes 20 places).
Primered and painted the floorpan.
Hammerited underneath the car.
New discs and pads.
All interior put back in minus rear seats.
Harnesses in place.
Supersprint 60mm race exhaust (to be fitted).
Ball joints.
Track rod ends.
New bearings.
New small golf splitter, duckbill removed.
Two MOTs
Just got to fit exhaust, and sort a rear brake, then back in for another MOT. This time providing the "brake shudder" is fixed i will be able to drive it. Then gotta get some tax. So many more jobs to do.
I wanted to go for the Ferodo 2000 or 2500 pads here, but no money meant i can't do that this time round.
Check out the lovely size difference here between the two pipes!
I miss my old mk1, it was never this much trouble, and at least it was quick.

How much did the whole system cost, and where did you get it from?

Thanks for nice comment.
HAHA im sure you would cry if i told you the cost. So i will…
The 3 sections of exhaust i got from a local tuner shop round here, which shut down a week later out of business.
The manifold was imported.
Apparently the last one they will get into the country, and took 6 weeks at least if i remember right.
Manifold: ?399.99 (that's with discount)
Exhaust: ?360.00.
so total: ?760.00
Do you know the funny thing? It's been 2 months (at the most) since ive had that manifold on my car, and now changing the engine. Crazy or what.

i was told to do that, i said "get stuffed" they'll bottom out too easy. but the mechanic i was speaking to said that with the weight i've removed i'd be better off just trimming them down.
is he right the?

have you just chopped the end off your springs?

Yep my plan is to get KW Variant 2 coilovers when ive got the money.
So i thought why not, they are Koni Dampening adjustable shocks and springs, so i thought it can't hurt.
It makes for one bumpy ride though :? and yes it does bottom out very easy.
The springs make a very metallic clanking crashing sound when going over potholes and other road imperfections. It's not ideal i know, but does the job and it's only temporary.
I know people that have done alot worse. Some even just only having dampers on no springs.

It's not exactly the safest way of doing it, but if your after a cheap drop then sometimes you have no option.
When the car is raised the springs come away from the car, which makes it unsafe if they dont lock into their positions when its lowered. ive also heard of a car going over a bump, springs falling out of seats, then the car landed it landed just on dampers and blew and was right down on the floor.
but thats worst case scenario lol.
alot of my mates have cut springs

its only an option cos i'm told the springs are made for the wieght, but i've changed the weight. a lot!

They are usually just a bunch of mates that kiss each others bums (not naming and names)
So back to the enthusiasts.
Going down right now to take valves out and do more work stripping etc.
Cheers steve thanks for nice words.
I've just priced up some of the gaskets and a few o rings i need…. ?175 just for them so far.

Slow i know, but i had to help build a friends engine crane, and mount it on a stand.
Looks like someone has already tried to shave the valve seat throat entry part.
For the next pics notice the new shiny bits that shouldn't be there, when taken the vavles out.
Different coloured bowls.
Scratches where injectors go.
Looks like someone has had something in here too far?
As it rests til next time.

I only post these things because when im reading a thread it's nice to see pics alot and things, not just text all the time.
I should be going down the garage later to start on either head work, or stripping the bottom end.

Also matched inlet and exhaust ports to gaskets.
A few other bits of head work too.
