i can be but i've held a clean licence for 11 years an got a really good ref from my troopy at work, serving for the crown and all that lol

Not always a retest, depends on the judge and the circumstances I think. How about keeping it, but undertaking a massive stripdown and restoration on it? That way you still get to 'enjoy' Mk1 Golf ownership without actually driving it, the temptation to drive it is removed, you'll have a freshly restored car at the end of it, and you'll also look after it very carefully once done.

thats what i was thinking as it's not how i want it and the money saved running it would pay to do the work i'd like to do

A restoration sounds like the way forward, you can do a lot of work in 18 months. If you were to sell the car now, with the credit crunch and all that, you would not get what it is worth.

So I'm with Paul_c, keep it and get it just how you want it, then when you are ready to drive again it will be extra special.

Keep it as mentioned before, loosing your licence is not
good, but its not the end of the world is it….. keep the
Golf strip it, restore it, and it will give you something to
focus on and keep you busy.

Do the course, i got baned for 2 years for DR10 but it got knocked down to 18 Months by doing it.

Restore the car, i remember how bored i was when i lost my license.
Wish i'd of had something like that to do.
