Baby seat in the rear of a MK1 cab.....

Hi all, we have our 2yr old in a seat in the front, but the mrs is expecting another, so we need to get another seat, but are worried about just a lap belt.

Has anyone modified their cabby to accept a 3point in the rear or can anyone suggest a seat made specifically for a 2 point?

Britax renaissance be one????

Cheers all in advance……

Don't know if this maxi cosi base would work on a 2 point belt?

We have a isofix one in our A3 & it makes it so much easier to get the little one in & out.

It would be worth PMing Tian, he has 3pt belts in the back.

Think he had his done by a licensed company if I remember correctly.

Re: Baby seat in the rear of a MK1 cab.....

I needed a 3 point seatbelt in the back of my clipper as I needed to get my 3 year old daughter in the rear in a forward facing child seat (the type of child seat that doesn't have its own straps). After getting quoted silly prices ?200.00+ to have a seatbelt fitted I bought a securon racing harness for circa 40.00.

I bolted the the centre rear strap to the floor in the boot. The new harness then passes over the back of the rear seat (in between the gap in the parcel shelf and rear seat). The left and right fixing straps fit by undoing the the existing standard seatbelts, placing the new harness over the bolts and doing the the bolts back up again. So my daughter is held safely in her chair by this harness and if feeling extra wary I put the normal lap belt on her as well. To top it off she is really pleased as she thinks she is a "Lewis Hamilton". Let me know if you need pictures. Andy

I thought you were supposed to use the proper mounting points for mounting belts, as they're reinforced to cope with the stress they're put under in a crash?

Had a iso fix one of them in our A2, very good!!

Not sure if there are any photos from the AGM but we fitted 2 recaro child seats in the back of the cabby using the lapbelt, tho they both had 5 point harness on the seats.

not sure how safe that would be but they seemed to fit very well.

I have my child seat in the rear with the lap-belt and i've got a cheap ratchet strap holding it at the top, anchored on the seat belt mounting point  right round the seat. Not brilliant but it aint going anywhere

By the way the car seat has its own belts i don't ratchet strap the child in

you need the seat belt mounts out of the American Cabbie. see thread below.

but you can use this britax seat as it states for lap belt too

Chortle have you got one of those seats fitted or seen one fitted?  I have one in my Scenic and was hoping to put it in the cabby. I'm really hoping it does the job. I've other car seats in the loft so I'll be able to stick one of those in the Scenic.

If anyone is looking for a Britax Eclipse, Halfords frequently have them on offer for £50.
