Is it not so that the pump needs to be re-conditioned by a specialist or any 1 could do that. . :?

BTW that black squeezy pump in the 1st pic, on the left, what is that for.
Havent seen that on mine or others.
Is that to get the Diesel to the Pum if you run out of diesel & re-fill the tank ?

That lloks neat, same as mine with the exception that i have red dots instead of yellow

Does your engine have hydraulic tapets like the caddy engine as it has 3 dots in the front just behind the pump.

I'm not sure all the dots were made and I'm no expert :dontknow: but it's a JK engine code, bet Bert will know

Gone to see a golf yesterday, as I saw and ad in the newspaper, and it wasn't any good (as I was expecting  ) Was about to leave when I decided to check the gearbox code, and lo and behold its an FF code  :D
So anyway went again today to have a test drive and the gear stick is really loose but I think its just the linkage(hopefully).

The car is a 1979 series 1 but with a different back end with big lights and not the original colour, been crashed in God knows how many times :? 11 previous owner's.
Some idiot did a VERY sloppy job of trying to "throw" a turbo in it and that didn't seem to work out too well    The only good thing I've seen is, that it has nice door cards

Thank GOD there's no MOT in this country because there wouldn't be any mk1's left (except f0r mine of course) (funny how the 0 and the o are so close on the keyboard  )

So left a deposit on it and will be getting it over this saturday (lol a mk1 towing a mk1) removing the engine and gearbox and any bits and bobs , then will scrap it to get some of the money back.

Been removing stuff from the old car to remove the engine and gearbox, got stuck on the drive shafts. One has bolts which is not a problem but the other seems to have to be removed with an allen key, but they seem way too tight for that. Should I just try with a pair of pliers or is there an easier way?

Sorry for being so stupid

hey guys I have a leak as seen in the 4th pic im not sure if its coming from the metal pipe connected to the bottom rubber pipe (in the pic) or if its coming from where the top large pipe is connected.

Did you ever have a problem like this? Do you know where it is coming from?

THe bottom rubber pipe that joins onto the metal one leads to the expansion tank of the radiator fluid.

hey buddy!

i literally fixed this problem today on mine, on mine it was the inlet housing for the flexible hose that comes from the water reservoir to the head. GSF do the housing item, 026121145e, positioned between the housing and the head was a rubber washer that has perished and the housing was cracked where the bolts go in, this was causing  an identical leak to yours, the part cost around ?4 and was money well spent, just to be on the safe side i also bought some gasket paper and some sealer to make my own gasket, i drew round the end of the housing and poked the fixing holes through the paper and cut out the center hole leaving enough room for the rubber washer to sit against the head. i then sealed the gasket paper to the head and then screwed the housing in place. the only trouble i had was the rigid pipe that is attached to the bottom nut proves tricky to work round. and also its an idea to drain the water system from the bottom pipe to the bottom left of the radiator, this is the lowest point and will drain. Clear the system through with a hose until the water runs clear then fill up with fresh coolant and water and you're done! i assume the diesel version inlet housing is the same as petrol. Its easy to do, you need a 10mm spanner for the bolts and thats about it! two people is a plus! lol i hope this helps you bud!

Hey thanks, just drained the coolant and removed the metal pipe of the "spare parts" car today also, so a bit of a dejavu moment with the small nut you mentioned

The problem sort of miraculously sorted itself out on its own, but I like a job well done so when I change the coolant on mine I'll be sure to follow your advice

Thank you for taking your time to type that out (I hate a lot of typing myself, I'm lazy  )
