How does a colour change affect value?

I'm going to get a full respray for the golf sooner or later, its diamond silver at the moment. However i've never really liked silver, and have another colour in mind that i would like. its an original period vw colour, and my question is, will changing the colour drastically affect the value of the car?

oppinions much appreciated

Only if its an extreme colour that not many like, such as fluorescent pink etc!

The important thing is you do a good job. If you are not stripping the car so engine bay, inside etc stay silver but outside is a different colour, that would affect value IMO

What colour are you going for?

Cheers

i will definately do the whole shell, and get it done well. the colour is a bit of a secret, although if i told you its a bit of a marmite colour, and dubboy has one, you could probably guess.

If you do it properly, eg: strip it and paint everything it
wont affect the value, unless its got history, pictures,
mag features etc or a very rare colour to start with
and you paint it white etc..  .

Go for it……

Yeah thats the one, superb colour, get it done!

A very 70`s colour, and very rare to see it on a car full stop.

i like the colour to i was going to do mine orange but i think you can only pull off the 70 s colours if you got the small rear lights and chrome bumpers so i changed from silver to mars red and its just been finished complete change inside and out !!!

the only way to do a colour change properly is a full body strip down but if you just make sure your painter gets all the major bits of the insides like the inside pillers boot floor and stuff it shouldnt affect the value unless its a totally concourse standard car to begin with

For some reason a mk1 Golf in silver looks crap, but looks superb in a TR4. I had my TR4 repainted from red to silver in 1995 and has probably put the value up.

How about painting it Gold?
