Mk1 1.6 Gti Project Rot Box!!! BAD NEWS!!

Welding upside down is a hassle. Is it possible to re-jig the job so you're welding from the top & inside of the car? Or turn the car upside down (no I'm not joking - people have done it!).

Nothing worse than lying on your side trying to weld. :(

Especially when a ball of red hot steel ends up going down you ear hole and fizzes on your eardrum

its all part of the fun getting weld splatter burning some skin from having to be about 6" from where your welding

keep up the good work

well i've been a busy boy again!!!! :D

started by striping the interior and carpets out so i can get busy without damaging things

3 out of the 4 footwell were wet!!!! so the sound deadening is in the bin and carpet on the line all day drying.

found this in the other footwell

something esle to add to my long list of things to do

took some of the pedals off but couldn't get the brake pedal off :dontknow:

after cleaning up

made a new bit

after making alot of sparks

also need to make good both side of the footwell, sun was going down fast so i retired to the shed and painted some things up

happy with what i've done today and hopefully i'll get a good few hours tomorrow too :D  :D

any comments???

i admire people like you more than people like adaptor man. you've brought a car to use and maintain it along the way. alot of people would have seen half of what you've seen and given up. you've seen it all and still you soldier on,

you sir, i respect.

i wouldn't say i've seen it all, by the time i've finshed i think i might have tho   but thanks for the kind comment.

looks like you've got a welding job on as well!!!!!

todays effort!!!

put the underside repair on, guess what it still fits 8O  8O

after i welded and clean it up!

view from the inside…!

cleaned and painted.

not painted the underside yet as i'm waiting on some seam sealer to turn up.

today effort was cut sort as i made a trip to machine mart to have a look at buying a welder rather than lending one off my mate.

any comments????

Alot of things happened today starting to look better in my opinion.

started off by getting rid of this messy bit

chopped out! 8O  8O

new piece in::::

cleaned up

happy with that so now i started on the inner sill

chopped it out and new piece in all cleaned up!! well happy :D  :D

got it all in place, tacked it, whacked it cleaned it up!!

seam sealer had turned up so slapped a bit of that on top and bottom

then out came the anti rust paint top and bottom, painting upside down is not that easy got it all over me and the floor

thats as far as i got today thought i did pritty good of a novice, tomorrow morning the anti rust should be dry so i'll slap some underseal on the bottom and spray the footwell out all being well.

at one point today i was litery on fire, to many sparks on the trousers and they when up i n flames, oh well  :dontknow:  :dontknow:

any comments???
