Mk1 discontinued
Hi,
I've tried various places to get a full stainless performance system and can't find a straight swap anywhere… the people I've rung say to use an Ashley manifold with a blah centre pipe and a Jetex backbox with a blah downpipe. Basically a mish-mash of parts which "may need additional fabrication" to fit properly. Someone even said that supersprint normally send left hand drive exhausts which may not fit !?!?
This is one time that I "REALLY" need the expertise of the brains on this site!! If someone can tell me a full, straight swap from a standard system to a full system which is currently available, I'll donate another ?1 to the site. Thanks people,
Spud

1.8 8v standard gti Paul… no mods as far as I can tell. Awesome gti said that supersprint had discontinued some of it's stock and they sometimes sent left hand drive version which caused issues.
I'm willing to pay good money for a straight forward recognised system but I just keep hitting brick walls. Can you help mate?

I haven't but I'll look them up. Where are they based? I'll try and google the company.
Thanks I'll give them a call.

Hmmm… called them. They only do mild steel which "we suppose is more prone to rust… but we can provide a stainless back box".
It's getting harder to source parts for the mk1… :dontknow:

I have a powerflow s/s system, which are predominatly for the boy racer crowd out there… but… I went into my local dealer told him I wanted a stainless system but not one that was too loud or that looked as if a homeless person could live in the exhaust of my car.
They came up trumps and he's fitted a system that is shiny, not going to rust and looks like std. I don't have a stupid looking tailpipe just a slightly larger std looking piece of s/s pipe, that he polished prior to me getting it. It sounds a touch louder (and I do mean the tiniest bit) than the stock c/s system fitted to it before, and no it wasn't rotten making it sound louder as the rubber support snapped and it sheared off just in frontof the intermediate silencer!!
I have a standard downpipe but if it aint broke don't fix it. If you're looking for a s/s downpipe as well, we've (my dad and I) have previously taken a gasket to a local machine shop (benefits of being a mech eng) and got a flange machined and then had a specialist exhaust fabricator make a custom 4 branch manifold (for a TR4). I guess if the guy making the powerflow is any good (like mine) then he'll be able to fabricate a 2-1 downpipe with no bother at all.
If you have no joy getting a s/s flange made let me know and i'll see about getting a couple machined up.
Tim.

Thanks to everyone that contributed to this thread I do appreciate it. I've decided to bite the bullet and go for a custom stainless steel exhaust including the manifold. I tried for about two weeks for a whole system excluding mish-mash of different brands with no joy. Thanks though. Cheers

just so add to the thread.
i can safely say ive been through all this recently, and really didn't expect it to be such a mission.
from failing an MOT on exhaust hanger in wrong place i ended up spending ?760 on a mk1 golf 8v exhuast!
i had to go for an all supersprint system in the end, and manifold (apparently i got the last one they are doing).
waited 2 weeks delivery so far for the manifold, system already here, apparently should be coming into the UK tomorrow, if not another week.
i chased round for ages trying to get it all. loads of companys that used to supply is went bust, and supersprint themselves are DEFINATLY stopping doing bits for the mk1 and mk2. i know this after speaking to about 9 different suppliers all saying the same thing.
i might have been better off getting it all custom made, but once i bought the system, only the manifold would fit it.
anyway good luck
getting harder and harder

someone should look at how much a pipe bender is and see what the costs are of making some stainless pipe with universal boxes a bit like what powerflow do but clamp together instead of weld together then its just a case of getting a four branch

My power flow is in sections with proper flanges on (with gaskets and everything) all the way through the system!! Maybe a good installer?

No I didn't try them direct but other magnex distributors said they couldn't help me….
As for the pipe bending machine and exhaust manufacturing… great idea!! Wonder if anyone has the know how… could be a tidy profit maker that!!

all the missions that you go through to get it

What about a Jetex system? Do stainless or aluminised…
