The day finally came. I went to pick up my Mk1 from the bodyshop today. To say I'm happy with the quality is an understatement! I've been championing my dealings with Greg and the guys at Southam Bodies from the start, but god damn is it warranted!
Another shout must go to Rajan from the Mk1 owners club. He came to pick it up and bring it on the 180 mile trip home in his box trailor. He did a fantastic job and I could rest assured it was in good hands.
Heres the days events in action. I will get more pictures up later in the week because it chucking it down with rain and I've locked it up in the garage until a drier day comes along.

A tense game of pocket billiards ensues!

Greg was so worried it might catch on the sill, he nearly curled one out.

O.K, O.K, I know its cheesy, but I'd just got the car of my dreams back.

Back home.

Next job is to fit the interior, wait for a week or so to definitly make sure the paints hardened, give it a full valet and sit back with a giant grin!

I got the chrome for the windscreen, rear screen and back passenger windows from ebay as its only plastic with chrome covering. The front driver and passenger window are more difficult to find, they are aluminium and I had to get them from German Ebay secondhand and refurb them with a dremmel and polishing wheel. You will need the correct rubbers aswell because they have the groove for the chrome. Again, the front ones are the hardest to find, the others can be bought easily from ebay as old new stock.

Wow looking really fantastic, bet you really chuffed, I know I would be.All the chrome looks spot on and the engine and bay you could eat your lunch from. :)

Just one thing I'd get someone to give you a second opinion on them topmounts. Can see from the thread they have already been taken off for spraying and possible therefore new, just the gaps look too large.

I changed them before it went away for the resto when I fitted the coilovers. I bought them from Ebay and the are definitly advertised as Mk1 fitment. Can anyone else shed some light for me please?

They appear to be Mk1 mounts dude but they are definately toast, maybe they're were nasty branded ones and they dont last 5 mins with Coilovers…

Most run Vag items or Febi's as i think the Febi's are as good if not the same and thats what ive fitted too my Coilies plus i think ive read somewhere that they're made by the same company anyways.

**Edit**

Btw Very nice Golf dude  8)

It seems there are 2 types used on the Mk1 according to Vagcat. I got Febi ones from a company on Ebay and only had them for 6 months now and the cars only covered around 190 miles in one journey to the body shop.
Mine looks like the one on the right.

I see the Febi ones would be the style on the right.

Maybe there is 2 different shape strut towers between models  :dontknow:

If there are different ones i would hate too have  to run them on coilies with all thoose extra parts to mess up…
