the only way to tell would be to drop sump then crank. :dontknow:

 or find a low milage 2litre bottom end swap it over problem solved. if you have to take the engine out anyway it would be rude not to. thats what i did with mine mk3 2.0l gti bottom end everything else original. just swaped everything over made a hugh difference might work out cheaper than having your bottom end rebuilt, deffo worth thinking about
