Porsche 944 Turbo

Post

Given the slow resto progress of my MK1, I decided a couple of years back to buy another MK1 GTI to enjoy and drive whilst I restored mine - I didn't want to buy another project so looked for a sorted car. Completely by accident I happened to see a Porsche 944 on ebay that was at the budget I was looking to spend and to my surprise it was very tidy. Well, after digging around the net I found that these cars seem to be massively under-valued for what they are and a bit of a bargain!

So, I narrowed down my search to an early (1983) model and a 1990 model. I plumped then for the later S2 model that you can see below.

It was a cracking car - 3.0 litre 4-pot is a cracking engine, silky smooth and loads of torque. It was very fast but soooo smooth you don't feel it so very quickly I fell out of love! Long story short, 3 months later I sold it and bought the earlier car I mentioned above - another red one

This was another nice car - very similar to drive (from memory!) to my MK1 Golf - it does share wishbones amongst other parts. A great torquey engine which sounds like you're going to take off when you boot it :cool:As much as I loved (and still miss) this one, a year later I had the urge for some boost in my life, so chopped this one in for a 944 Turbo - my current weekend toy.

I love this car - the boost puts a smile on your face every time. It's rust free - I do need to get the sills painted as the old chap I bought this from had painted them in stone chip to protect them - they should be body colour. Other than that I've serviced and tinkered with her, replaced the gear lever leather already and just enjoying driving it, whilst soon hopefully focussing back on the MK1

They are great cars - and under-rated. Lovely handling, very well balanced, very solid cars too - when you take them to bits you see where the money went originally!

…but that boost!!

It is indeed! Now's the time to buy, I think prices have bottomed out and are starting to rise a little, especially for Turbo's as they're becomming a bit of a rarity now

Cheers mate. I fancied a black or white one, but this one came up local and too good an opportunity to miss at the price.

I'll be in it at the AGM if the MK1's not finished  :)

No interest for me. Tell him best to post on PCGB and TIPEC forums, should get plenty of interest ;)

Love that, my mate had a 944 at 17, his Dad had a 911 and his Mom a Boxster, when he turned 17 his dad said he had to get a Porsche for a laugh. Bearing in mind I had a 1.2 Corsa, lunchtime races weren't much fun for me. I think it was the 2.5 and it went like stink! the seating position and well, the interior in general is such a great place to be! I loved it. I think he paid £1750 for it, going back about 8 years ago. The clutch went and it cost £1100 to get fixed… we laughed.

Anyway, getting to the point, I have had a soft spot for these since my mate had one, such character!

They're nice cars indeed Spilz - still cheap to buy in the scheme of things but not so cheap to fix!

Nice S2 Ansar, the 3.0 is a lovely, smooth, torquey engine

You can pick them up cheap enough and if you're old enough for classic car insurance then sorted ;)
