The roof is always down when she drives, but i cant really bring myself to do it. I tried it once, but felt a plonker.
In fact, i feel stupid driving it full stop :)

No, not yet, ill send him a meaage.

I needed some matts to match the seat material, so i popped to argos and got some for a fiver, chopped them to fit and them covered them.

Back on the Jetta, back in it's uaual home. I have a problem with this car, as soon as it's all working perfect I end up taking it apart again :).

Back at roys, but no use of the ramps :(.

Hi, kirkeys came from various places, as I brought a few until I had a match pair with one being wider for my mate.  eBay is your friend for them, the great thing I found us all the ones for sale down south that are collection only don't sell for much, but all the ones up north sell for loads. Less autograss down here I guess.

Yep the Ghia is a 59 lowlight, I may stick up a thread for it on here when I get a chance. After all the hassle of me putting a mk1 Jetta on here I didn't think people wanted to see much else.  I have a thread on restowagen from years ago that ive brought back to life.

Cheers man, I'll have to check it out :).

K04 now in and running.
For all the people that told me the k04 swap was easy and used all the k03s pipes was lying. I had to sodding change everything, all water and oil pipes, then lengthen the oil return pipe. Mod the intercooler pipe, this still needs a sharp 90 bend and the dump valve moving to clear the bonnet.
I managed to move all the heater matrix pipes and squeeze in a 51mm to 57mm pipe so I can keep the stick air box.
Everything still looks stock under the bonnet.

New exhaust down pipe made, I used the stock Audi pipe up to the flexy as it has s great bend, heat cover and lam hole as standard. Then mated on the down pipe keeping the second flexy. Used all new Vw gaskets on everything too.
While the exhaust was being down it was totally re hung with new brackets tucking it right up to the floor of the car.

Also raised the front suspension a bit to make it mire driveable.

I had to trailer it to the exhaust place.

Right after months of dicking about my BBS E52's are on.
These wheels are a tad on the rare side, so when i found a set for sale in Florida i was all over them :). I had them sent back to the UK.
They are 7x16 and 8x16 magnesium centres which have been checked and are crack free, the dishes have been swapped for bigger street dishes, race dishes are thinner and easily bend on the road. The centres have been powder coated in black. They were originally from an 1980's E30 Touring car.

They are 5x120 so i needed to get some adapters made, i brought a set to use as templates and then had some slim ones made, now running 10mm out back and 18mm up front.
I put up a pic of the 18mm ones a few pages back and the machining of the wheels, ill add a pic here to save looking back.

The wheels were taken to my local machine shop and a 5x120 jig was made up to trim the back of the wheels, there was plenty of meat on there and i didnt want to damage the wheel, so we took 6mm off the back of all the wheels to higher the ET. We also checked that all the wheels were true and straight, and they were, phew.

I went to trial fit the fronts and they werent even colse to clearing the callipers, it never crossed my mind that a race wheel would clear, my RS's clear perfectly.
So my only choice was to spend hours grinding down the edge of the callipers until the wheels cleared. They only JUST clear, if you see the car, check out the clearance.

Next up tyres, 165x40 went on the front fine, but the back has been a nightmare. Due to the shape of the rim, they have a dip in the middle where the 3 pieces meet in the centre rather than the edge like most 3 splits. So the tyres would seal, 165x40 just wouldnt go, so i tried a 175x50 and that went, but i hated the look so it came back off, then onto 164x45, nope. We tried hard, i mean 150psi, straps, tubes, hairspray, brake cleaner, jumping, heating, pre stretch, but nope it would go. Then onto valves, 1st set too small, rubber ones looked horrid so they came off, my light weight race valves fitted were just not strong enough and the tops snapped, so i found some at a classic car meet and they fit perfect.
The only tyre that i dont mind the look of is a 195x40, but the problem with this is that on a mk1 i cant bring the lip of the wheel out far enough without it rubbing really badly. So the 10mm adapters were made to get the rear wheels on. I wish i could get a 185x40 or 175x40.

Right all wheels are on and fitted, i think my RS's suit it better, but they are growing on me. My main issue is i cant get them to sit how i want. I cant tuck the front any more without putting smaller brakes on, the rears cant come out anymore with out raising the car a lot.

I had a place make up some red and gold badges for me too, then stuck on some black bolt covers and bbs valve caps.

My mind has gone blank about the ET's at the minute :)

First trial fit, not even close.

That is a hell of a lot of effort (and no doubt money!) but they do look nice!

Pitty - most people just won't appreciate how rare they are, or the work that has gone into them…!
