X's Restoration: Update 16th July!

I didnt use heat proof paint on the rocker cover… but hammerite is useful for about 100-150C so i should be alright

I am thinking about spraying the exhaust manifold, and for that ill definitely need heatproof

I've agreed to give my dad a hand polishing his pocket rocket

That sounds so wrong.

Shut up… I meant his car, although he was so busy getting his bloody HID lamps sorted we didnt even get that done (and we were watching the GP)

Don't protest too much.

Oh my gaaawwwwdddd progress has been slow this week… in fact i havent done ANY work since about last weekend  8O

Reason being ive had so many assignments with college its just taking over :banghead:

so my idea of "ill get the drivers side of the car done by november has gone out the window, im not further than i was when i last posted up

BUT!!!!! ive finished all of my work now so im free to get back to what really matters in life……. CARS!!!!!!!!

so im gonna make a start again tomorrow (hopefully, ive got a full day of college before that, with possible geography coursework  :x) but by the end of tomorrow i hope to get the whole suspension turret done, and have made a start around the chassis leg.

I managed to pull the washer bottle out (it was literally stuck with waxoyl   so now that isnt in my way) *that reminds me, ive gotta clean that aswell!*

Thats basically the situation.. ill get some pics of progress when ive actually done something worthwhile (ill get some pics of my new fitted repainted cam cover aswell)

Cheers for the interest

im free to get back to what really matters in life……. CARS!!!!!!!!

Does Katie know where she ranks in order of importance?

Replacement panels now sourced (CrazyQuiff's emporium)

Can anyone tell me how big / wide / deep the rear arch repair kits are?

The rust has travelled a fair way up the wing side of the rear panel joint (Ma… er… 'X' can you take a piccy of the affected area of driver's side rear wheelarch - ta)

I just want to know if the repair panle will replace the rusted area or whether we're going to need some extra metal welding in

Ok heres a pic to help answer my dads question:

It hasnt turned up well, but you can just about see the little rust bubbles, the rust stops about where the arch extension starts.

Basically we want to know whether a repair arch panel will suffice to cover all of the rust, or will we have to do a bit of constructive panel making

Arch repair panel should be fine.

Here is a pic to show what you get to work with, although it is the opposite side to what you show

Hope this helps

Good thread by the way, keep it up

Ahh its the whole arch… that answers your question Dad  :)

It means that the possible rust that is behind the plastic arches will be gone aswell  :D

Will get pics of waxoyl removal over the weekend

FINALLY GOT SOME WORK DONE  8O

i started cleaning the drivers side of the car (sus. turret, chassis leg etc)

to be honest i havent got much work done this week, but it is starting to look better:

[note the now fitted freshly painted Cam cover 8)]

Also, my wing isnt actually that orange, its just the light, ive got it red now

That turret took me about an hour to do, cos i went right down the back, up to the bulkhead, then i T-Cutted it to make it shiny

I noticed some runs in the paintwork  :o in the engine bay, but they wouldnt show up on the photo so i cant show you..

My latest progress is the chassis leg:

I ran into a bit of a problem, because where the suspension turret joins the chassis leg has loads (and i mean LOADS) of sealant around the welds i got a bit over vigorous and pulled some of the sealant out:

The only thing thats inspiring me to do any work is that my daily runaround is off the road at the moment:

stupid punctures

my "should get the whole drivers side done by november" was a bit farfetched, but im not in any rush, ive just got to remember to steer clear of that bit of exposed sealant.. i think theres still a fair bit left below it, so im alright for now :banghead:

So you got a puncture, big deal, they're easy to sort. I've got real problems mate. Seeing your valiant efforts has spurred me on to clean my engine bay too and I now have about half a dozen wire wool splinters that I've got to get out with a scalpel!

If I get a moment I'll stick some pics up for you, keep up the good work!

Tian…. its quite an achievement to get wire wool splinters so well done… wire brushes work better.. depending on what youre doing lol… but thanks, im glad ive inspired somebody to get some cleaning done, even if it isnt myself
