X's Restoration: Update 16th July!
(thank you soooooooooooooooooo much for the wheels dad! )
but anyway, this weekend ive got relatively free so i can get some work done (ive said that a few times) but it seems to be almost warm out so im not in any discomfort..
i might start work again on my rad cowling, but i fancy doing some waxoyling now that ive found my detailing brush (a bloody meguiars brush that i decided to use for getting rid of waxoyl :roll
but anyway ill get some pics up by monday (probably) but tomorrow ill probably get the tyres swapped from my steels to my 9 spokes so that ive got 'decent' tyres lol
thanks for your support for a young'un

My names Tom, i don't know if i've already told you.. But i've got a Golf that i'm restoring now..
I'm 16 too.. And funnily enough, i don't have a garage either
I see your slightly ahead of me.. You don't work / learn.. And you've got longer than me to get this done.. I better get my jog on..
Currently i'm just stripping the car and i'm getting it sent off for a respray.
But, engine isn't currently working which is a bitch Anyway.. It's nice to know that there are other 16 y/o out there doing the same thing!
And btw.. I'm 17 in June so i've got what?.. 5 months?
Oh, and mine is a 1.6l Carb 1982! And!! The best bit.. It's a Cabby!

*cough* june is 6 months away but :dontknow: im 17 in July so i havent got that much longer than you to do it
but yeah, not having a garage is crap… i got some work done yesterday though cos it wasnt that cold out, but it went dark so then it froze over
surely a cabbie isnt the best idea for a resto :dontknow:

Hi there, i plan to get this resto done by my 17th, (18th July) so ive got some time… (that proves i dont have a license)
and the ONLY way that i would even consider selling is if a purist gave me a ridiculously large amount of money (purely for its standardness and documented history (i would be looking for ?3,000+ to a purist (i reckon someone would pay that for it when/if it gets perfect))) why, you looking for a car
i want to drive it all the time, i love golfs and i think the way mine draws attention is great
and yeah ill change the percentage, now ive done some work to it 8)

your getting there mate keep up the good work
speaking of which… a little bit more work has been done (as promised) 8)
its not much, but as im doing the wing now, the waxoyl is properly put on, but i got to here today:
It's unbelievably hard to clean around that bloody washer bottle mount…
this is what i mean about the thickness of the waxoyl:
normally you can clearly see red paint through it, but its just jet black.
not much, but it was cold and i started late so i could only get about an hour done (this was done yesterday, i just polished it up today :roll
and seeing as i havent shown you my new fitted timing belt cover:
shiny 8O 8)
thats all for now, but i will probably get some work done tuesday onwards :dontknow: dunno yet, depends how bad my hangover is
EDIT: i wont have a hangover, i dont drink, im under 18

my engine bay in my red 1.1 looked exactly the same as yours did, covered in years worth of black waxoyl i gunked the whole thing up and hosed it down with the pressure washer connected to the hot tap, worked a treat! try that if your struggling with tight spots and the bulkhead etc
i got my first golf at 16 too, but it was a mk2 driver, couldnt find a mk1 :? i loved messing with it even tho i couldnt drive!
got my mk1 driver just after i turned 17 and passed my test, and rust wise is was in far worst condition! 8O seriously bud, think yourself lucky with that one, thats hardly got any rot compared to most
keep up the good work!

might give that ago then, ive not got anywaxoyl under my bonnet or ote just road grime and crudd. got most of it of just a bit in them hard to reach parts.
chears
Si… I'm using White spirit, what you do is just pour a bit of spirit onto a cloth and then rub away, it clogs the cloth up quite easily so youll have to turn the cloth quite a bit (after a while the clog bit seems to disappear and just leaves a soggy, black (reusable) area of cloth
the other way to do it is go onto www.polishedbliss.co.uk and search for engine degreasers and theres plenty to choose from 8)

you know something Greg, i have thought about just pulling the engine out (hiring a jig etc for about a week) and then just jetwashing it off… but thats kind of like bringing a machine gun to a paintball fight… overkill
tbh im not even sure if im gonna do the bulkhead or not, i may just leave it… the only reason my bay is as clean as it is is because of the waxoyl, and i know that im taking a big risk pulling it off..
saying that, i could make the 'head easier to reach by taking the inlet manifold off, cos that would get the carb etc out of the way and open up more room :dontknow:
I'll think of something
