richyhill - My K Plate Clipper Cabby "build thread"
Hi Guys
Moved pics around on photobucket, so thought i need to get a build thread sorted, and try and put a link in me sig.
So here's my Clipper Cabriolet:
I will try and get pics in order, but its trying to remember when i did what now.
So from puchase in 2009 through to current day 2011
As i found it:
removed rear panel and changed rear lights
then changed to single light grill, but gone back to original now
German number plates and bonnet bra added
Then some other bits including clear rather than smoked front indicators, an original VAG cabby fuel filler neck which i managed to get brand new :-), mud flaps etc
then after a good service and the fuel filler neck fitted etc, it was time to save for new wheels, out with the old and in with the new
Then a few more details on the exterior, refurb badges, add club grill plaque etc
Then in 2010 my friend got married so the golf was needed as a wedding car
Then i did some other bits:
Webber carb conversion
replacing a few bits of trim that needed imrpoving
changed side strips from black ones to black and chrome ones
changed door handle inserts to chrome ones
and mainly TAKING IT OUT TO SHOWS AND EVENTS :-)
Then i finally got round to replacing the old vinyl roof with a black mohair one, with a nice black headlining
and have sorted through loads of history i have for the car, and now have 2 x folders that look like this:
Plans for this winter whilst it is sorn is to:
clean under all arches and then spray them white
clean engine bay more thouroughly, possible even dropping engine and box out to do it
refurb badges again as vinyl lettering has started to peel
sort out dashboard light not lighting up my rev counter :-(
so thats "roughyl" where i stand at Nov 2011
There is prob some other bits i have done which i have missed but i have tried to add suttle modifications to make it unique, but not stray away to much from the great oem styling
hope you like, comments good and bad welcome :-)
Cheers
Rich

Its a cold job to do in the winter mate, I done mine in the garage in May and its bad enough on the hands without the freezing temprature
Your wheels look great, sell something, kidney maybe, and get the tyres on as you will be choking to see the wheels on the car, I know I would
Its all just rubbish in the winter as you just cant potter about with the cars especially as I have been working 7 days to pay for new bits for the car but its dark by the time I get home.

Hi Rich I did my arches with a bit of white spirit & a steam wallpaper stripper I used one of the nozzels that came with the stripper and just rubbed the gunge off with a few old rags.
It took about 1hr per arch think the stripper cost about £35
Photos prior to painting.

sound like worth giving it ago. Thinking about painting arhces with hamerite white once they have been cleaned up, give them a bit of protection and then hopefully they will just need a good wipe over once a week
im torn at the mo, have you seen photoshop brucie has done with them actually on car, they look much different.
Think im gona try and get tyres on em and fit them before selling the lenso's if i can, then make decision after ….
There just seems to be alot of Lenso's on cars now, and i fancied something a bit different …

Your Audi wheels smash the Lensos mate IMO, they will look brilliant when they are on
Are you going to paint the wee inserts, they would look cool in white

Are you going to paint the wee inserts, they would look cool in white
not 100% sure exactly what yet, mechanic neighbour is bringing me back heat gun from his unit. I am going to try and peel back / strip off paint in inserts with that to see if inserts are polished underneath, if so may just polish them up and run them like that for a bit. if they are not polished then i am thinking white would look great against car, or if not something neutral like black or dark grey ….
There are a couple of people interested in my car now though just as Stu sold his dammit ! So i may have to make a decision of do i want to sell now and then keep putting money away to make sportline dream a reality (when one finally comes up i like and in budget!)
