Saw this at E38 what was the reaction from E38 crew ? Are you going to make it more Mk1 ish [ i notice your wanted add for the grill] . Any regrets ?

 :)

Not sure mate, most people liked it, however after seeing it in a field surrounded by other mk1's i sorta felt it wasnt working for me.

Planning to change a few things to make it more mk1ish (lol) as you said. The car was far from complete on the Saturday, it wasnt running right a few days b4 the show so did a few all nighters to get it there so it was sort of thrown back together at the last minute. Didn't get to the show until Saturday afternoon

You can't fault the level of finish inside and out, but i have to agree with what you've said, more mk1 ish. It's 99 percent there, it needs less bling and more of the character of the original gti back.

Just my 2p.

Pete

cheers pete totaly agree with what uve said mate…….

cant get it 100% first time round, its been 10 years since i did this sort of thing

Its nearly right :D  The resto work, bodywork and welding wise was all done properly as shown in your build thread, cant fault that. No one get's it right first time, im still unhappy with the stance of mine and ive had the project for five years

It just didnt look how i thought it would look after reading the built thread, but  it's your car, and im sure you'll have it sorted however you want it.

I started reading this about 45 mins ago, read it all, and all the way through I was thinking "hmmm, ive seen this car somewhere before" then when I saw the cover of performance vw, I suddenly remembered. I loved that article! It looks so so so good, I love the colour, wheels, everything. Well done! It really is stunning!

x5pea your golf is friggin' awesome, first saw it in Performance VW then found this thread, which is a great addition to the magazine coverage. Hats off to you for putting that much effort, commitment and money into the car!

It?s just a shame its so dam good you can?t use it everyday, that would drive me mad, I guess that's what 'show cars' are all about.
