Cheers boys and girls 8)

Now this boy has a bit more work done

Got Mike the polisher to re-polish the chrome strips on the grill so fitted them back on tonight and re-fitted. Also given the front panel is repro the headlights didn't fit properly so had to grind the outer metal on the headlights to get em to fit.

So a night in amongst the midgies I finally got all the carpets out as they had been left uncovered during the prep for the car (in the middle of this I coulda killed the painter     ). Believe me a hoover wouldn't touch these  :banghead:  . Also re-discovered how difficult the retaining studs are to get off.

How bad they were……ingrained with sand, filler, paint etc

A bit of before and after

Roof fully on now and finally got all the straps re-attached. Have a bit of cleaning to do to the lining as it was sat outside all winter (covered)

Also got the drivers qtr light in. Ball ache given the new seals and the chrome trim, but got there…..just need to get the other side done and we have glass all round

Got time to get the wheels across to mate Gerry to get the tyres on

yes……still to adjust the ride height  :D

More tricky was fitting the door cards. These are very early door cards and as such took a very different handle, which I can't source so had to adapt them to take my existing ones.

First was to remove the retainer that the top of the handle clips and twists into. Shown on 2 different door cos I'm a fanny an forgot to take pics
This shows it where it normally sits

And once out the sleeve, filed down and in the alternate hole

And some nice clean door cards re-build and on

Anyone a bit older may guess where the winders came from……not VW  8O  ??

Finally managed to fathom out the vacuum hose set up…..I think….so engine nearly done

That looks mighty, its coming together really nicely, I love the colour 8) .

How does a car get imported from Bermuda to Scotland there is bound to be a good back story there :dontknow:

My New Year's resolutions are: 1. Stop making lists. B. Be more consistent. 7. Learn to count.

Yeh was one of those ones that I only found out when I went to get it. My Unc is an ex vw dealer on the island of Islay (west coast of Scotland) and he had taken it in as a trade in from a very old friend. It turns out that previously a woman had been working in Bermuda and using the car for years and when she moved back to Scotland she couldn't bear to leave the car behind so imported it.

It's now a 3 owner car Registered in 1985 and imported in 2001. Up until last year it still had the km only speedo, has never ever had a fog light fitted and has only covered 56,000 miles now it's been converted. I've still got all the original paperwork and docs showing it was sold by Masters in Bermuda. I've googled the first owner and he still lives in Bermuda so once the cars finished I'll mail him a few pics :D

Got some more bit's done

New BBS caps arrived so got em on. Also had a look at dropping the front down a bit, but helper springs will need to come out for the chop

Also had my Audi chrome handles turn up along with the chromed armour door plates….so stuck em on…and I like  :D

Had picked up a powder coated rear beam ages ago and had all new brakes etc so time to get em all fitted

One bare beam

One part built beam

My mate crawlin under a car  :P

Also took time to replace the filler neck and also stone chipped the whole underside while the beam was off

Took the helper springs off the rears before we started, but even running this high (want lower) the spring isn't seating at the top so took em back out to see if the helper springs will still allow lows. RS's look much better with the 20mm spacers on tho

Had an issue when putting the rear beam on as I heard some dripping…..nah gushing….looked down the underside of the car to see the fuel tank emptying itself on the drive.

Now I had repaired a leak last year for DC11.5, but since then they have rotted through completely

Once cut and ready for sleeving

Sleeved

And back in place

Should be good for years to come and more supported than the std metal pipes on their own :D

Had to do the old c-clamp trick for getting the downpipe on

Then to bleeding the brakes and as is typical a nipple sheared and then the bolts were so rusted that we couldn't get them out the back of the cylinder so outwith the grinder and boom

Well got some of this (not a big blue dildo :D )

and made some repairs to this so we don't have any fuel leaks

Got a windscreen man in to fit the screen….looks braw

With massive amount of love going to a mate Roy who spent most of yesterday trying to get it running. Time served VAG tech and found loads of issues with the 2E3 but eventually got it going ok

clicky….still running a little fast on idle, but I had to drain some of the coolant to fix a pipe so may have an airlock

I like your choice of painting the engine Gold. Makes a change in it :)

Thanks. Was looking for something that worked with the green and it was either gold or silver so opted for gold. The polished head would have been great, but the tappets and cam are wrong for a straight swap so need to source those at a later date

Thanks.

Wheels at the back of the garage are a set of 5 x 19' BBS LM's in Celeste Phoebe (Lambo colour given I have Gallardo brakes and steering wheel on my W8). The W8 is waiting for a new engine which I can't do till I get the mk1 out the garage hence the rush to get it finished:D  Long q to get in my garage
