How much have you spent on the coversion overall?  If you don't mind me asking.  Seems like a smart upgrade to my driver.  Nice car by the way.

too much i reckon about 3-4k will add it up and see but there is cheaper ways of doing some stuff like i spent about ?100 on getting the right belts and loosing them on the road

How easy did the wee engine come out?
I want to save my costs on labour as I am getting a garage to install my g40 as I need everything done correctly.

Don't sell it! I've been watching this build on and off, for a while now, was looking forward to seeing it finished :D

I felt like selling up a few times with mine, but I just had a break now and again, and come back to it a few weeks later, and now I can see the light at the end of the tunnel   Nothings going to feel better than getting it on the road and enjoying it!

you could take the old engine out in half an hour between 2 people, they're so basic. I'm waiting for forgeman to get back on here. We miss you mate, and our G40 projects are standing still. I'm waiting to get electric installed in my shed so I can get the chassis rails strengthened to accomodate the ridiculous torque produced by my G40 engine, the previous owner spent ?5000 on it. Rebored to 1340, forge pistons, bigger valves, vernier, oil cooler, organic clutch, baffled sump, GT flowed inlet, de-wedged throttle body, 4 into 1 stainless, bigger injectors, lightened balanced flywheel etc. I hope it satys in the bay!

someone mentioned that i would have to take the drive shafts off of the gearbox to get this out, this easy to do?

basically im stripping it of everything is that right?

i have no engine lift but i do have a scaffy pole, a bit of rope and my bro in law to help, that will work wont it?

thanks, Paul

the driveshafts are held in by 6 torx bolts per driveshaft at the gearbox end. When I took the 1100 engine out, we lowered it onto an old tyre and lifted the car up and back over the engine. that might be easier than trying to lift it out with 2 people.

** I agree with you pete, every time something gets me down on this project, I imagine myself in the drivers seat, rolling out of the shed for the maiden voyage. A G40 engine is the perfect compliment to a mk1 golf, they should have come from the factory like that haha.**
