i will soon be  undergoing the task of putting a eaton charged g40 into a mk1 van. the van is currently a 1.5 diesel (i think). are there gonna be any major issues i come up against with regards to engine mounts? or anything else for that matter? the engine is quite high powered for a g40, running an estimated 220 to 240 bhp.

Just make some decent ones. Don't use the 1.3 parts as the rubbers are usually very old and smaller than the big block bushes. If your's is a diesel, then you will need to move the driverside engine mount to the small block position. The gearchange will be different too. I think the exhaust and tank will be OK as I'm sure they are the same as the GTi.

with regard to mounts you have 2 options for the off side mount either way you will have to cut up your chassis   so i would just weld the polo mount in but if not then you can weld the small block mount in and make up a mount out of polo and golf some thing like this

but u will have to add another pulley in i used a cabelt tesioner wheel from a escort 16v and a flat piece of metal to act as another tensioner also you will have to use longer belts 8X1050 are perfect but if you running an eaton you may need longer :dontknow:

but belive me well worth it

mot

well she failed the mot today    but it wasnt too bad a ball joint, rear brake binding, and the heaqdlights aim too low.

so i headed off home to fix her and whilst gunning it off a round about
part of the exhaust popped out so it sounded like a rally car which i thought was awesome but the copper in front of me didn't
so i ended up with my mot costing ?114 and i haven't bought the parts yet
 :banghead:

ok wel my simple "its only a ball joint and rear brake binding"

well i tackled the ball joint first which ment replacing the wish bone as it was looking a bit worse for wear so for that it was new wish bones on both side with poly bushes new ball joints and all the mounts for my arb now

and the rear brake binding i thought may have been a seize hand brake part either the cable or the mech as it hadnt been use for a bit
but it was the cylinder and after leaving the brake pipes in wd40 all night i put spanner on them and snap :banghead:

so now i have fully rebuilt rear drum new hand brake cables and rebuilt wishbones and arb

why do little job always turn out to be big ones ???? :banghead:  :banghead:

Engine mounts 1.1 or 1.3

Hello, I?m from Portugal and I?m doing the same thing to my GTI, but I can?t find the engine mounts from a MK1 1.1 or 1.3, can you help me with that??
I closed tank in and out lines because the G40 pump is inside the tank, and I install the electric system from the G40. I have some problems getting the engine mounts and with the transmissions because I have a G40 and a GTI, so probably I will hate to stretch  one or both.
