My 20VT Build (Updated 13/04/10)

So day two of the engine swap and a MASSIVE thanks to Justin and Graham ( Two club mates ) who turned out to help.

Everything was going really well and we lowered the engine in……..

Then after a bit of jiggery pokery it went in 1st time  :P    :P

It took quite alot of shifting to get the driverside engine mount on and seated correctly but it went in eventually.

Then it was on with the other mount all going well, then it was on with the front mount and starter motor ( I need to get two new bolts for the starter but Justin managed to rig it together so it held until i get them. THEN the Rear mount it looks very much like i have been sent the wrong one !!!!!!!!!

Graham and Justin tried every comination about 3 times but it would just not fit  :(  :(

Graham then left and Justin and i tried to work out what to do next, The fuel lines were put in temp place and we had a little rig up off the intercooler and radiator and fan, We also discovered that the battery space is take up so i have to work out what to do with that any ideas ??

We left the poor old girl like this………………..

Its such a shame that it appears i have the wrong Rear Gearbox Mount as that has hindered the rest of the day, but nevermind these things are set to test us.

No point hanging around mate, If we did not hit the rear mounting snag today im fairly sure we would have got the engine in properly, fuel lines on, New Brake Servo on, Front intercooler on ( If we could have made some mounts ) Tighten up D/Shafts, Radiator on ( Again if we could have made some mounts )
Spal fan on and maybe the engine bay loom all fixed in place.

Then what is there left to do……………

Finnish loom
Fit Ecu ( I want it under the centre console really but will see )
Cable up ( Clutch etc )
Fit D/Pipe
Fit New Exhaust.

Then turn key and realise nowt is working lol.

ad - good progress.

did you get the mounts from martyn, aka vagobonds?

i'm having issues lining my 02C (rallye) gearbox up in my mk1. i got mounts from martyn for an 02A, which is the same casing as the rallye box except for the bell housing - so the mount should fit just the same.

i'll text him now!

hi ad

you may want to check how you've fitted the rear mount - i've just checked martyn's advert, which shows it mounted like this: http://i161.photobucke…obonds/o2ao2jmount005.jpg

i have mounted mine to the opposite side of the diff casing. i'll be refitting the mount in the correct position today and will let you know how it goes.

I apparently have a rare stud pattern on my o2A boc that was the problem,Martyn knew they exsited but has never had anyone with one on all the mounts for the 02A he has sold.

He made me one up yesterday as he is going away on Wednesday.

Top bloke in my book i would have waited until he got back on the 30th but he managed to get it sorted so i can crack on with the project.

Here is the new one suitable to fit my "strange" 02A

awesome, top guy, doesn't mess around!

sorted mine today, but the 02C (rallye) casing is different the 02A, whilst it shares the 02A's diff casing on the left, it's quite different on the right, so had to modify it to get it to bolt up, but fits spot on.
