manged to get a few hours in today on the golf. need to sort the workshop out so i can start striping fully but until i get a spare day to do it will have to do some of the other smaller bits so decided to clean up the bonnett

so here it is to start with

as you can see from the pics but was some quite badly rusted bits so out with the wire wheel and a helping of this stuff >>>>>>>>

and ta dar back to bear metal

looks loads better   so stuck rust eater on the really bad bits and left it to do it magic. hopefully get down there tomo to primer it up

Be sure you have no nitromors left, or you'll have big trouble when you paint it.

will do that was the only thing i was worried about it said to clean of with water surely that would just cause it to rust so i used thinners  :?

Yeah, probably your best bet using thinners.

well got back to work on the beast today as finished early. on monday i managed to get a coat of zinc primer on the bonnet

and also 2 coats of filler red oxide primer on there

today managed to get a couple of coats of primer on there

then i decided to re-bolt it to the car but that just made a new problem
FINAL COLOUR OF THE CAR ! i like the red to much to get rid of it so think that will be final colour

while i was waiting for bonnet to dry before putting it on decided to remove sunroof to find

so have to wait till get interior out to fix that one dont fancy setting fire to anything welding it up

getting my rolling jig soon so can crack on properly

And he's off!!

Good start bud! nice job with the underside of the bonnet..not looking forward to tackling those braces next year.

The rust doesnt seem too bad though. Athought when welding the sunroof, frosts restoation do stuff called cold front to help prevent your panels warping. you probably know but its always worth mentioning.

Think you'l have fun with this one! !

I'l be keeping an eye on it.

All the best with it fella!

well made a start on the rear valance today was a bit daunting going at it with the grinder but heres how i got on

well heres the reasons why i wanted to replace it

so first off placed new panel on top and marked round to give some idea on where to cut

any ideas on what the little hole marked with a ? is for

then i took to it with the grinder started by removing the bulk of the panel

as you can see i left the parts round chasis leg as didnt want to chop into them . so to remove theses i started buy removing paint and then marking spot welds then drilled them out and they fell straight off

and there we go tryed new panel on for size not a bad fit but needs a little chopping will be welding it on tomo after sorting out the rest of the rust under the panel

sorry so long buddy!
cold front is a putty that goes around the area to be welded.
soaks up the heat to help prevent panel warp.

Good start on the rear panel.

Is there a lot of welding to be done?
